Joecon 2012: Brekhov revealed!

Even with Botcon in full swing, the Collector’s Club manages to drop a surprise on Joe fans today.

Feast your eyes on Colonel Ivan Nikolevich Brekhov, commander of the Oktober Guard and hero of the USSR!  The good colonel has been without a new figure since G.I. Joe comic pack #6 and the club seems to rely heavily on the Rise of Cobra Destro figure to bring him to life.  Of all of the figures shown thus far, this one seems to be the most “off model” and yet still manages to capture the essence of the plucky Soviet soldier.  I don’t think I can recall ever seeing the good Colonel with his collar fastened and the tie is at odds with his often “rumpled” appearance.  Brekhov always struck me as a soldier who cared more about results than a spit-and-polish appearance.  Still, it’s good to see him released in updated plastic form.

I wonder what his beloved aunt Ludmilla thinks of this?

With three down in terms of reveals, can Stormavik and Horrorshow be far behind?  Will Dragonsky make an appearance?

Keep your eyes on the 3 3/4″ Set Previews Page for more details!

“Dollar Store” Joes take the fan community by storm!!

If you’ve not heard the news in the past week, some of the most anticipated new Joe products to hit shelves in the near future AREN’T related to the film G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  Revealed by Gyre-Viper over the JoeDeclassified.com, there is apparently a series of 6 new-style construction figures that will be hitting “discount stores” later this year.  I’ve mirrored a few of the images here but I highly encourage everyone to check out the full slate of images over at JoeDeclassified.com.

The initial assortment appears to consist of the following figures:

However, it doesn’t stop there– it appears that there will be running color changes for all six figures including one that highly resembles the driver of the Pile Driver T’Gin-Zu!

Check out all the rest of Gyre-Viper’s pics and the discussion over at following threads on the JoeDeclassified.com forums:

At the end of the day, these leave me far more excited than most of the forthcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures hitting later next month.  Great-looking parts use, figure stands, and repaints that give us even more obscure characters all combine into a SOLID WIN!  Now if only these would start hitting stores!

Sunbow G.I. Joe: ARAH and G1 Transformers hit Netflix Streaming

Imagine my surprise last night when G1 Transformers showed up on my Netflix streaming suggestions.  Imagine my delight when I saw that the ground-breaking Sunbow animated G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series was ALSO available for streaming!

Now, don’t get too excited yet.  In spite of the announcement of the recent Netflix/Hasbro deal, new Joe content is slow to arrive.  As of Monday night, only the original two mini-series “The Mass Device” and “The Revenge of Cobra” are online.  However, this is most likely just first two parts to be made available and the rest of the classic ARAH series could be up by the end of the month.

Either way, this is good news for people like me who are sometimes too lazy to get up and put the DVD’s into the player.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer #2 is now online!

It went up late last night courtesy of Machinima.

Feast your eyes on the awesomeness that contains HISS tanks, Cobra as “special forces units”, and more of Firefly, Cobra Commander, and Storm Shadow.  Oh yeah, and apparently Roadblock has kids?!!

It’s a solid solid trailer!  In all seriousness, this trailer looks to be miles ahead of anything that was released for Rise of Cobra in anticipation of that film’s release.  Solid character portrays, minimal Channing Tatum exposure (who STILL manages to be the weakest part of the trailer), and some awesome looking action.

June 29 better get here soon!

JoeCon 2012: Schrage revealed!

The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club continues their 2012 1:18 convention set reveals with Schrage!

The Oktober Guard infantryman from East Germany is looking pretty spiffy in his first 25a-style construction!  He’s even clutching his beloved AK-47 and sports some very detailed web gear with what appears to be a sculpted canteen!  In fact, this figure looks as if he’s stepped right off the pages of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue #6 in which the Soviet team debuted.

Honestly– if this is any indication of how the rest of this set is going to turn out, I’m going to be one happy Joe fan when my non-attending con set arrives in the mail.

JoeCon 2012: Daina revealed as first con set figure!

At long last the figure previews for the 2012 Collector’s Convention set have begun!

First up is Oktober Guard sniper- Daina!

The Club’s tooling choices are solid this time with what appears to be a new head, new tooled helmet (possibly based loosely on the DTC Barrel Roll), and a very familiar Draguov sniper rifle.  The design works to give her a slightly more “bulky Russian military” feel than one would have expected.  (Personally I was thinking a straight-up reuse of either the RoC Cover Girl or the 25A Lady Jaye.)  Either way, it’s a great way to start off the convention set which makes me think that things can only get better from this point out!

This is the first version of Daina since the release of the VvV era Comic Pack #6

GIJCC: Footloose is shipping and CC monitoring for members!

Last night the Collector’s Club dropped a “one-two-punch” email into the inbox of its membership.   The first piece of news is that the 2012 renewal figure of Footloose is starting to ship to members who renewed by the March deadline.  That’s right– the second Infantryman of the G.I. Joe is on its way soon!

The second item is that GIJCC members should be on the lookout for a letter coming via mail.  Inside is an individual code redeemable for a year of free credit card monitoring.  It’s a very unexpectedly proactive step that the Club has taken– one that is most likely generated by the volume of criticism over the handling of the recent data breach that affected members of both Fun Pub’s major clubs.

The full contents of the email are posted below:

Here are the latest updates from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club:

SURPRISE! This week we started mailing the FREE membership figures for 2012!  We were able to get these manufactured much earlier this year, so off they go to you!  It will take several weeks for them to reach all of the membership, so please be patient.  If you don’t receive your figure by the end of May, please let us know.

In your April issue of the Club Magazine, you will find a letter that offers:  credit card fraud counseling; instructions on how to place a credit alert on your accounts; and a free one-year subscription to a Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Recovery Service that we have purchased on your behalf.

If you have received any evidence of fraud on your credit cards, please call and make a report with the 800 number listed in the letter for the recovery services.

Hasbro signs multi-year deal with Netflix!

I love streaming Netflix to my TV via my Xbox 360.  In fact, I love it so much that I ditched cable over a year ago and replaced it with Netflix and a HD antenna.  However, there have been times when I wish that the streaming library had just a bit more content.  Well, thanks to a multi-year deal between Hasbro and Netflix, the future is a bit brighter!

Hasbro Studios, the Los Angeles-based television production and distribution division of Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), today announced a multi-year deal with Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX). Ten highly popular franchises, including new and catalog seasons of famed Hasbro content, will be available to instantly watch on Netflix.

“This deal allows us to offer even more great kids’ programming to our members, both adults and kids alike, including new seasons of My Little Pony, Transformers Prime, and Pound Puppies after the season finale airs on The Hub.”

Transformers Prime, My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe: Renegades and The Adventures of Chuck & Friends are now available to instantly watch on Netflix. JEM & The Holograms, Transformers: Generation 1, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Rescue Bots will follow later in 2012.

The Hasbro content will be available on Netflix and included in the Netflix “Just For Kids” section. Netflix “Just For Kids” is a collection of TV shows and movies that is specifically selected for children 12 and under, making it easier and more fun for kids and families to browse and instantly watch a large selection of kid-friendly TV shows and movies within Netflix.

“We are very excited to be working with Hasbro Studios,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Netflix. “This deal allows us to offer even more great kids’ programming to our members, both adults and kids alike, including new seasons of My Little Pony, Transformers Prime, and Pound Puppies after the season finale airs on The Hub.”

“We are pleased that consumers will now be able to watch our award-winning programming on Netflix, the leading internet subscription service,” Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis said. “We are making our content easy to access, anytime, anywhere and on all platforms where audiences are consuming content and this is a big step forward with our all screen strategy.”

My girlfriend and I have already been enjoying Renegades via the streaming service (She’s a huge Snake Eyes fan now) and I managed to check out Transformers: Prime last night.  With the promise of even more Joe-related content in the future, Netflix has secured my loyalty for the foreseeable future.
