The fans of the G.I. Joe community are some of the most charitable around. Countless times have I seen fan groups holding events and raising funds for charity– giving of their time and energy to help those who are less fortunate. Such is the case with The Finest – a G.I. Joe costume club whose current IndieGoGo project is helping to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
The premise is this– for a contribution of $25.00 on their IndieGoGo project site, fans will receive a full color printed calendar (as well as a digital .PDF copy) featuring “the Ladies of the Finest” in some fantastic G.I. Joe-themed photo shoots. It’s all tastefully done and features characters both familiar and brand new! It’ll be a perfect way to start off 2015 and help our wounded veterans as well. However, there are multiple contribution tiers as well– each with their own unique contribution rewards! Remember, once printing costs are covered, all proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project!
With 46 days left they’re just over halfway to their stated goal of $7500.00. C’mon Joe fans– let’s push them over the top, help the brave men and women who receive assistance from the Wounded Warrior Project, and get a slick fan-generated calendar to boot! The official registration hasn’t opened yet but last night Golden Ticket holders were able to pick up their con sets and receive the attendee bonus exclusive item– the Russian repainted Snarler cycle with side car.
A quick check of the web revealed that the crew over at HISS Tank have rushed to get some nice light-boxed in-hand images uploaded. I’ve mirrored a few of them below but you can check out the entire gallery over at HISSTank.com. There’s also the images from Madmac41 and Photonut from last night.
All-in-all it’s a pretty solid set! While I’m not overly crazy about the long-coated Iron Grenadiers I’m positively giddy over the Oktober Guard figures. (Okay, even Iron Bear who still looks like he’s 12. What? Comrade Doogie Hauser is now in Russian high command?!!)
It looks like Operation: Bear Trap is going to go down in the books as “one of the good ones.”
Now someone get their hands on the all-but-revealed Darklon already!!
At long last the figure previews for the 2012 Collector’s Convention set have begun!
First up is Oktober Guard sniper- Daina!
The Club’s tooling choices are solid this time with what appears to be a new head, new tooled helmet (possibly based loosely on the DTC Barrel Roll), and a very familiar Draguov sniper rifle. The design works to give her a slightly more “bulky Russian military” feel than one would have expected. (Personally I was thinking a straight-up reuse of either the RoC Cover Girl or the 25A Lady Jaye.) Either way, it’s a great way to start off the convention set which makes me think that things can only get better from this point out!
