JoeCon 2012: Schrage revealed!

The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club continues their 2012 1:18 convention set reveals with Schrage!

The Oktober Guard infantryman from East Germany is looking pretty spiffy in his first 25a-style construction!  He’s even clutching his beloved AK-47 and sports some very detailed web gear with what appears to be a sculpted canteen!  In fact, this figure looks as if he’s stepped right off the pages of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue #6 in which the Soviet team debuted.

Honestly– if this is any indication of how the rest of this set is going to turn out, I’m going to be one happy Joe fan when my non-attending con set arrives in the mail.

JoeCon 2012: Daina revealed as first con set figure!

At long last the figure previews for the 2012 Collector’s Convention set have begun!

First up is Oktober Guard sniper- Daina!

The Club’s tooling choices are solid this time with what appears to be a new head, new tooled helmet (possibly based loosely on the DTC Barrel Roll), and a very familiar Draguov sniper rifle.  The design works to give her a slightly more “bulky Russian military” feel than one would have expected.  (Personally I was thinking a straight-up reuse of either the RoC Cover Girl or the 25A Lady Jaye.)  Either way, it’s a great way to start off the convention set which makes me think that things can only get better from this point out!

This is the first version of Daina since the release of the VvV era Comic Pack #6

No other information is yet available but the thought of the return of the Russian version of G.I. Joe is sure to light a fire in the heart of many a Joe fan!

Joe Con 2012: A change in the dates and venue

Members of the GIJCC received the following email this weekend regarding some changes to both the venue and the dates of the 2012 Collector’s Convention to be held in New Orleans, LA:

Please note that due to circumstances beyond our control with the anticipated venue for the convention, the dates of GIJoeCon will now be June 28-July 1 at a new venue, the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. We apologize for any problems or issues this change of date has caused. We hope to see you all in New Orleans June 28-July 1 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Convention (attending and non-attending) registrations will start sometime in February.  Again we apologize for any problems or issues this change of date has caused

You can now make your hotel reservations at GIJoeCon.com.

For those folks who’ve already booked flights, here’s hoping that you can reschedule without too much hassle.  It is interesting to note that this means the con will be the same weekend that G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits theatres.    Gee, I wonder what one of the con events will be this year…

Slaughter on hand! For a blast from the past, check out JBL’s coverage of the 2006 Con!

Early pics of new figures out of New York Comic Con!

Toy super site ToyArk.com has posted early pics from Hasbro’s G.I. Joe event at the New York Comic Con.  (See the mirrored images below.)

WOW– I’m seeing Slaughter’s Marauders, Renegades, and more Dreadnoks than you can shake a can of grape soda at!  Could it be that the situation of the brand isn’t as dire as thought or are these some of the many rumored exclusives that will be hitting both the Collector’s Club subscription and BigBadToyStore.com later this year?

EDIT: Friend of JBL GeneralsJoes.com has confirmed that these are the BigBadToyStore 7 packs that will hit pre-order today!

Check out the images below or over at the original posting on ToyArk.com!

EDIT: Even cleaner pics are available over at ToyNewsI.com!

Hasbro press release for New York Comic Con

The gang from Pawtucket will have a real presence this year at the annual New York Comic Con and have issued a press release with details on which lines will be featured– and it looks like pretty much ALL of them.

For Joe fans, the most important information is highlighted below but you can read the full press release after the jump.  The big news?  The previously teased seven packs will be exclusive to online retailer BigBadToyStore.com.  Anyone else thinking the remainder of the figures we saw at Joe Con and SDCC are getting the seven pack treatment– especially in light of the news that G.I. Joe is starting to disappear from 3rd quarter planograms again?

G.I. JOE

At New York Comic Con Hasbro will reveal the highly anticipated G.I. JOE 7-pack battle sets available as a Big Bad Toy Store exclusive later in 2011 for the first time at the opening of the convention. The brand that launched “the first action figure” in the mid 1960’s continues to introduce highly detailed figures and vehicles as well as comics, movies and television shows that have been embraced by millions of fans across the globe. Hasbro will also have on display in its booth a wide array of the current 2011 G.I. JOE toy line. The epic saga of G.I. JOE vs. COBRA is captured in great detail in the line’s 3.75-inch action figures featuring well known characters including DUKE, SCARLETT, COBRA COMMANDER and two of the most famous ninjas of all time, SNAKE EYES and STORM SHADOW. The brand is also looking forward to the theatrical release of the second major motion picture based on the brand hitting theaters in June, 2012 from Paramount Pictures.

2011 G.I. Joe SDCC exclusives images

sdcc 2011 gi joe vs transformers starscream cobra commander

Hasbro really knocked one out of the park this year with their SDCC exclusives!  Based on Devil’s Due Press’ first volume of “G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers”, this year will see the release of a non-tranformable “Starscream” Skystriker as well as a pilot version of Cobra Commander.  However, the icing on the plastic cake comes in the form of the Commander’s accessory– MEGATRON himself!!!

Even though I won’t be attending SDCC, I’ll be doing my darnedest to get my hands on one of these!
