Coil Con 2012: Dodger announced as second exclusive!

G.I. Joe fans are an enterprising and industrious lot.  If there’s not a convention anywhere near them, then they’ll start they’re own.  More importantly, if they want an exclusive G.I. Joe figure for that event– they’ll make their own!   Take, for instance, the 2012 Coil Con Dodger:

 Dodger Coil Con 2012 Exclusive

“A simple and elegant reuse of existing tooling” would be my first comments on this figure.  It uses the AWESOME 30th Anniversary version of Duke for the body and the open mask head of the G.I. Joe Renegades Cobra Trooper to give it identity.  It’s an inspired parts choice that really evokes the original 1989 BF2K Dodger figure.   Coil resident designer/fabricator/”figure guy” Jay Hunger really knocked one out of the park with this one.  It really makes me wish I didn’t have a family-related conflict that weekend as I’d snatch these up like a second Renegades Storm Shadow at retail!

Coil Con will be held on September 8, 2012, at Kokomo Toys and features specials guests including:

G.I. Joe Toy Fair 2011 Press Release

Hasbro issued the following press release concerning their G.I. Joe offerings for 2011.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (February XX, 2011) – After nearly three decades, the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA battle rages on and legions of fans couldn’t be happier. When the fight between these two foes commenced in the early 1980’s – as G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO – it brought the world’s first action figure to life for a whole new generation of fans. To celebrate this milestone, Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS) is introducing new and updated versions of many fan-favorite characters, vehicles, and play patterns from the past 30 years. Hasbro’s 2011 G.I. JOE line will include the re-launch of 12” A REAL AMERICAN HERO figures, re-imagined versions of classic 3.75” figures and vehicles, and new characters from “G.I. Joe Renegades,” the hit animated series that premiered on the Hub last Fall.

Hasbro invented the action figure category when it launched its G.I. JOE brand more than 45 years ago. The 2011 G.I. JOE line of action figures and vehicles lives up to that legacy with new sculpts showcasing favorite G.I. JOE and COBRA characters. Fans will love adding the new STORM SHADOW, FLINT, and SCARLETT figures, among many others, to their collections and kids will enjoy the characters from the “G.I. Joe: Renegades” program showing up in action figure form.

The brigade of 3.75” figures will have iconic vehicles to add to their arsenal, including a new version of the iconic H.I.S.S. tank and the SKYSTRIKER JET. The original SKYSTRIKER JET, released early in the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA series, has been at the top of fans’ wish lists since it was discontinued in the mid 1980’s. It will come with a 3.75” pilot to help navigate G.I. JOE through treacherous COBRA territory. Also, debuting is the BLACK DRAGON Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft taken directly from the new programming.  Continue reading

The new A-Team figures are AWESOME!

Okay, maybe it’s the rose-colored glasses of a 30-something who grew up watching the original series (and had the old Galoob figures in both scales) but I think the new A-Team figures look fantastic!!  Seriously, I’ve not been this excited for a toy line in the last year!  Jazwares is producing all four of “the guys” as well as the van!  These bad boys will be available at both Target and TRU at the end of the month but has them up for pre-order right now.

Jazwares A-Team movie figures & van

The catch?  SJ isn’t ordering a whole lot beyond their pre-orders to avoid sitting on merchandise for a long time.  So, if you want them, pre-order them NOW!  The set of 5 (Hannibal, BA, Face, Murdock, and Lynch) will set you back $39.99 and the van is listing for $32.99.  That’s pretty reasonable compared to retail!  They’re listed as available 6/1/2010. A-Team pre-order page

Also, if you missed the DVD’s when they were released a few years back, has the complete series in a special van-shaped tin for $91.49!  (All five seasons in one fell swoop!)  Available 6/8/2010! pre-order for the complete series

The figures are slowly trickling into Target stores now and are scheduled to be on shelves in force by the new film’s release date of June 11, 2010.
