G.I. Joe FSS 4 reviews have begun!

Subscribers to the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Figure Subscription Service 4.0 had a nice surprise just over a week ago as the first shipments began to arrive!  After a long dry spell, Joe fans finally had some new troops to add to the ranks.

Once again, I’m joined by visiting professor of “Joe-ology” Chris Chung from JoeSightings.com as we break down the first two figures of G.I. Joe FSS 4: Law & Order and Nunchuk. It’s 1987 meets 1992 or Rawhides meets Ninja Force as these two figures go under the review lights!

Are these two worth adding to your collection?  Did they live up to the anticipation since signup for G.I. Joe FSS 4?  Does Deadpool make yet another cameo in a review?  (Seriously– do you even have to ask?)

G.I. Joe Collector’s Club January Newsletter to Update Status

It looks like the January issue of the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club newsletter may potentially offer more information about the recent changes in Collector’s Club memberships that were revealed before the holidays.

Amidst a great deal of speculation over the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club forums, the “FubPubAdmin” account posted this bit of text:

 All the information we have has been released. No further details are available at this time. We continue to take renewals so that members that expire between now and March 16th can still get the 2016 FREE figures, as these are two of the best figures we have ever produced!

 

In addition, as a continuing active member, you will still be eligible to purchase FSS 5.0 should you desire to participate.

So…. FSS 5?!  That’s either a typo or Fun Publications’ relationship with the G.I. Joe brand may have a bit more life in it for 2016, aside from delivering FSS 4.0 and running the Colorado GIJoeCon in June.

Changes to G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Memberships in 2016?

Are changes coming to G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Memberships beyond 2016?

It was reported earlier today over at Allspark.com that there are changes coming to Transformers Collector’s Club memberships in 2016.  To be more specific, regardless of when a member enrolls, all memberships will expire on December 31, 2016.  This has also led to speculation on their forums about the future of the annual BotCon convention which is currently managed by Fun Publications.

Given the interconnected nature of the Fun Publications organizations, it didn’t take long for speculation to begin about the nature of the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club memberships as well.  Sure enough, a quick check of a membership page uncovered this new piece of verbiage at the bottom of the membership description:

Please note that at this time we are only accepting memberships and renewals for the 2016 calendar year.  All memberships will end with the December 2016 issue.  For example:  if your  membership renewal has a February start date, you will receive the FREE membership figure in the late spring along with 11 monthly issues.   If your membership renewal has a March start date, you will receive the FREE membership figure in the late spring and 10 monthly issues.

Really?  So, no matter when someone enrolls in 2016, their membership ends in December.  Which means that the cost of a membership is the same, regardless of the number of issues of the newsletter received.

So, what does this actually mean?  Is the Club transitioning their memberships to a calendar year model?  Or, does this mean that Fun Publications will no longer be the entity behind the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club going forward?  Or, is it merely verbiage that was ported over from the Transformers side of the organization by accident.  We’ve reached out to Fun Publications and we’ll let you know what we find out going forward.

Right now there’s no OFFICIAL word as to what the future will hold for the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club and the annual memberships.  We can only wait and see what information, if any, the Club chooses to disseminate in the coming weeks.

EDIT: We reached out to directly to Brian Savage at the GIJCC who was good enough to send us back a prompt response.

All I can tell you is exactly what you read online.  There is no additional information at this time.


So for now, this is all we know but I’m sure the coming weeks and months will reveal more information.

Every so often the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club catches my by surprise.  Today is one of those days.

When Pythona was revealed as the 2016 membership incentive figure I was a bit skeptical.  Sure, the Club said that they would be releasing a Pythona figure but given the Club’s history of wash, rinse, repaint I found myself wondering if they could really pull off the new headsculpt and complicated paint deco that would be needed to bring this Cobra-La emissary to life.

Color me surprised.  Pleasantly.  In fact, she looks pretty good when compared to the animated appearance of the character:

G.I. Joe Con 2016 will be in Loveland, CO

G.I. Joe Con 2016 will be held in Loveland, CO from June 16 – 19!

In an interesting move, the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club has moved the annual Joe Con back to summer.  Ever since the Club added the offiical Transformers BotCon to their slate of convention offerings, Joe Con has played second fiddle to the larger Transformer event.  Traditionally held during the summer, Joe Con has instead been relegated to either a Spring or even Fall event over the past decade.  Colorado also marks the return of a “Western Con”– something that hasn’t happened since the San Francisco con of 2002!

The 2016 G.I. Joe Collectors’ convention to be held June 16-19
 in the beautiful city of Loveland, Colorado

Fort Worth, TX – October 6, 2015 – Fun Publications, Inc., licensee for Hasbro’s official G.I. Joe Collectors’ Convention G.I.JoeCon, announced today that next year’s amazing convention will take place at the Embassy Suites Loveland Hotel June 16 through June 19 in Loveland Colorado, just north of Denver. Fans once again will come together from across the world to celebrate another exciting year of all things G.I. Joe at this fantastic event! You can make your hotel reservations now viaGIJoeCon.com.

 

In the coming weeks, G.I. Joe fans will be able to register for G.I.JoeCon 2016 through the GIJoeCon.com online registration system. Fans and collectors who register for G.I.JoeCon as either a Real American Hero or General package holder will receive an exclusive convention box set, admission to the Friday private sales room experience, priority seating at all panels and seminars throughout the weekend and admittance to the Saturday night Casino Night and Awards Party. Finally, American Hero or General package attendees will also receive a special bonus G.I. Joe item to go along with their convention box set. General Admission for non-registered guests will be available on Saturday and Sunday only.

Old Snake & Stealth BAT Duo Review

The Old Snake & Stealth BAT Duo two-pack review is live!

The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club blew the fandom’s collective minds at Joe Con 2015 when it was revealed that one of the pieces in their G.I. Joe & the Transformers series was a two-pack featuring Old Snake aka “Future Cobra Commander.”  Featured in the classic G1 Transformers episode “Only Human“, this 1:18 figure recreates the look of a familiar-voiced arms dealer who went by the moniker of “Old Snake” and who just happened to be in possession of Synthoid technology.  However, the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club took things a step further and packaged this distinctive villain with two repurposed Transformers Prime Soundwave figures in classic Battle Android Trooper deco.

The result: the Old Snake & Stealth BAT Duo two-pack!

G.I. Joe Club Sub Viper & Wave Crusher now in stock!

The long-awaited Wave Crusher & Sub Viper set is now IN STOCK at the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club store.

Apparently the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club doesn’t care that the new 50th Anniversary product is hitting stores now and that the SDCC exclusives just went up for sale at HTS as today they’ve opened up sales on both the Wave Crusher and the two G.I. Joe / Transformers crossover sets!  After all, aren’t all collectors independently wealthy?

Regardless, this repaint of the 25th Anniversary Night Specter (SHARC) comes complete with an exclusive Sub Viper figure.  It was stated at Joe Con 2015 that sales of future vehicle sets such as the announced Dreadnok Heartwrencher are dependant upon sales of the Wave Crusher and Sub Viper.

Old Snake & Stealth BATS

The G.I. Joe/Transformers “Old Snake & Stealth BATs” set is now IN STOCK at the G.I.Joe Collector’s Club store!

The past few years have seen more G.I. Joe/Transformers crossovers than I would have thoguht possible including three SDCC exclusives from Hasbro.  This year Fun Publications, the company behind both the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club and the Transformers Collectors Club, announced two different crossover sets– one featuring Marissa Faireborne, the daughter of Flint and Lady Jaye, and a second featuring a beloved character from the Transformers episode “Only Human.”  In this episode, the villain Drath approached an indvidual named “Old Snake” for his synthoid technology, something that Cobra had used numerous times in the G.I. Joe cartoon.  Old Snake, as most fans will immediately recognize, was intended to be the future version of Cobra Commander! Continue reading →

G.I. Joe FSS 4 Sign-Up Ends Today

G.I. Joe FSS 4 sign-up ends today at Midnight CST!

This is it– the last day to sign-up for the entire series of G.I. Joe FSS 4.  This year’s figure subscription service is mix of DiC era characters and international repaints with a long-requested figure of Cobra Commander’s son thrown in for flavor.  It’s the usual mix of repurposed parts with a few new accessories and two new heads from Boss Fight Studio

The Club already released two sets of new teaser images to help drive up enthusiasm for G.I. Joe FSS 4 sign-ups.  The first is a look at the prototype sculpts for Billy, Outback, and Sneak Peek’s periscope.  (This is being sculpted in lieu of a third new head.)

The second set of images has been added to main gallery below.  It’s a series of mock-ups of the backside of each character in the roster.  (There’s a pun in there somewhere.)

Also, for the first time the Club has offered a “hint” of the “13th Mystery Figure” included in this year’s set.  I say “hint” in quotes because the clue presents very little opportunity to discern the character’s identity.

– It will be a Female Figure!
– Features a NEW head sculpt!

Yep– that’s the ENTIRE hint.  Well, that narrows it down to the Baroness, Lady Jaye, Cover Girl, Scarlett, Jinx, Zarana, Pythona, G.I. Jane, Dr. Knox, Munitia, Mistress Armada, Candy Appel, Pale Peony, Shooter, and pretty much every non-male character to ever appear in G.I. Joe.  Let the speculation begin…
