Collector’s Club: G.I. Joe FSS figures are shipping!!

For those of you that signed up for the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Figure Subscription Service it’s time for some holiday cheer!  The Club announced earlier in the week that some of the FSS orders would start shipping before the holidays and now it seems that some folks have already received theirs!

According to a thread over at HISSTank.com,  board member Raginspoon and site admin Destro have received their figures.  The Club initially asked that folks not discuss what figures were received until everyone had theirs so as “not to ruin the surprise”.  (In other news, fairies are real and unicorns make good bacon!)  However, as folks are excited to finally have some of these pieces in-hand pics have been posted over at HISSTank.  I don’t want to jinx this with any spoilers but fans are going to be happy, no matter how they slice and dice the reports popping up on the web.

Here’s the shipping announcement from the Club, posted better late than never:

I hope that you are all having a great holiday season so far.  Today it was confirmed that our container was aboard a train and headed to the Dallas terminal.

We still don’t have an exact delivery date to our warehouse, but we are anticipating that we will get some of the sets out before Christmas.

The Christmas holiday will probably see the shipments split so please have patience while they are enroute to you.

We now anticipate that they will all be shipped before New Years.

Larry Hama sketch to benefit Wounded Warrior Project on Ebay

Wounded Warrior ProjectLarry Hama is known as the “godfather of modern G.I. Joe”.  A former soldier himself, this extremely talented writer conveyed a soldier’s perspective in his writing like few others could.  No matter what the situation, readers of G.I. Joe always knew that Hama’s characters thought, felt, and acted like REAL people who were serving their country out of a sense of duty and honor– no matter what the cost.  His writing inspired countless fans around the globe and has been cited by many as the reason they enlisted in the US Armed Forces.  Mr. Hama didn’t glorify a soldier’s life– he presented it warts and all.

Now, Mr. Hama is doing something to “give back” to those who served but that bore the brunt of combat more than others.  He’s auctioning off an original “Snake Eyes Homecoming” sketch— an homage to the flashbacks in Issue #36 of the original Marvel run– on Ebay with all proceeds from the sale to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.   Not only is this a change to own a one-of-a-kind piece of original Larry Hama artwork but more importantly it’s a chance to give something back to those who sacrificed their own well-being to protect ours.

Seriously guys, this is one of those moments where I’ll encourage everyone to “dig deep and give what they can.”  If you can’t afford the sketch, make a donation to Wounded Warrior Project and help those who protect our freedoms and our liberties on a daily basis.

G.I. Joe costumers take over Alcatraz – Cobra 1st Legion’s latest photo shoot

G.I. Joe costuming has been taken to new levels by the California-based Cobra 1st Legion.  Focusing on accurate representations of the classic character, members of the 1st have organized dramatic photo-shoots at varied locations to produce live-action dio-stories.  Each shoot has had a specific story line and the result is nothing less than stunning.  For their latest shoot, the Legion took on the most infamous prison in US history: Alcatraz!

JBL reached out to Matt Holdaway for more information on this impressive group of costumers:

“The Cobra 1st Legion is a G.I. Joe themed Cosplay/Charity organization started in February 2012. In that time they have done photo-shoots on an aircraft carrier, a liberty ship, a submarine and at Alcatraz prison. They have also sent out hundreds of books with Operation Paperback, done a food drive for The Alameda County Community Food Bank and team up this weekend with Ocean Conservancy for Coastal Cleanup Day. For the War on the Rock they drew heavily from the cartoons and comics to create a sequential story from photos as an homage to Larry Hama’s classic Silent Interlude. G.I. Joe Collector’s Club: Last day to sign up for the Figure Subscription Service

This is it– the LAST day to subscribe to the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Figure Subscription Service!  Fans that fail to do so by MIDNIGHT CST tonight will have to take their chances with “day of shipping” available figures in the Club Store or with online resources like Ebay or BigBadToyStore.

G.I. Joe Collector’s Club: Figure Subscription Service cut off fast approaching

The oft-delayed sign-up period for the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club Figure Subscription Service (or GIJCC FSS) is rapidly drawing to a close.   Midnight on September 4th is it so if you’re a hard-core G.I. Joe fan that wants these “made-to-order” figures you’ll have to act soon.   Estimates put the cheapest option for the 12 named and 1 bonus figure to be just over $350.00, putting it on par with a boxed convention set in terms of pricing.

In addition to some new images of Quarrel and TNT, the Club posted this information on their Facebook page yesterday:

Deadline for the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club FSS subs is Midnight CST on 9/4/2012! If you’re subbing, that’s the cut-off!
FIGURE SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE Update!The Figure Subscription Service ends at midnight on September 4th central time. DON’T MISS OUT! Go to the club site for the official link.Please note that if you are checking your FSS order, you do this at the FSS site NOT the club store. The two systems are independent even though they are able to use your same login and passwords.

NOTE ABOUT SINGLE FIGURES: There will not be a large quantity of single figures ordered for the club store so if you are interested in most of the figures offered, we recommend that you subscribe and sell the items you are not interested in to others. This will ensure that you receive the figures that you really want.

If you log in to check your order(s) (click My Account at the bottom after you log in), and you are not seeing your invoice or emails, please drop us an email using the link at the bottom of the My Account page and we will have your file reconstructed. Your invoices are in the system but there are a few accounts that are not displaying correctly. After the subscription period ends, we will only send out emails to the FSS subscribers concerning shipping/billing updates and all of those emails will appear in your My Account.Thanks for your patience and support of this new system

I first got involved in the online G.I. Joe community back in the late 1990’s and eventually became a site admin back in late 2003/2004.  Since then I’ve seen all manner of G.I. Joe sites come and go– review sites, dio-story sites, forums, fanfic, “Release the DiC Series on DVD” sites, etc.  However, I received a tweet yesterday that led me to something that took me completely by surprise.

Imagine being able to look up any G.I. Joe figure or vehicle– and then rotate that piece of plastic goodness 360 degrees to examine every detail.  That’s the concept behind 3DJoes.com.  Currently only displaying the 1982 line-up, the sight offers an unprecedented way to view your favorite Gen 1 ARAH figures in all their 3.75″ glory.  It’s such a fantastic idea it makes me wonder why no one had ever thought of it before.

Seriously– go check it out.  It’s a sight that promises to get a great deal of use from this particular admin– especially when the later 90’s era Joes are uploaded.
