EA Games launches “Rise of Cobra” website!

Today G.I. JOE fans worldwide can head to the recently launched G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra The Game community web site to declare their allegiance in the epic battle of G.I. JOE and COBRA and set up a “base of operations” to get all the latest news and information on the upcoming video game. Users can share battle strategies and talk about the game on the EA forums, visit the official G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra movie site, sign up for the G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra newsletter to get classified intelligence in real time, get their own G.I. JOE or COBRA badge to show their allegiance on Facebook and MySpace, and battle ninjas and defend their base from COBRA in G.I. JOE mini-games (coming soon). Fans will also be able to declare their allegiance to G.I. JOE or COBRA by using the site’s faction switcher to customize their G.I. JOE experience while browsing.

G.I. JOE and COBRA operatives who choose to download certain “intel files” from the site will even be awarded with a secret access code to unlock additional top-secret G.I. JOE downloadable content!

It’s nice to see something positive happening for our men and women in uniform these days.  According to ArmyTimes.com, Paramount is hosting free screenings of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra at Air Force and Army exchange theatres.

Service members and their families will get a chance to watch the elite, next-generation G.I. Joe team prevent the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the mysterious Cobra from plunging the world into chaos – for free, and before the film opens to the general public.

Free screenings of Paramount Pictures’ “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” will be held at Air Force and Army Exchange Service theaters at 11 military installations, starting with Andrews Air Force Base, Md., at 6 p.m., Friday, July 31. The other ten will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Tickets for all screenings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. At Andrews, tickets are available at the exchange manager’s office. At the other 10 locations, they’re available at the installation exchange store or the theaters. Continue reading

Members of the G.I. Joe Collectors Club received the following email regarding the 2009 Collector’s Convention:

Heavy Duty from GIJoe: The Rise of Cobra will be joining us at GIJoeCon in Kansas City!

British-born actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has a well established acting career with a string of iconic performances under his belt.

Dubbed the ‘Action Figure’ actor in a recent magazine for is iconic string of strong characters on film and in television, it will never be more likely on display than in one of this year’s most highly anticipated films, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Heavy Duty, the team’s fearless heavy ordinance specialist who also shows a refined side, sharing a passion for cooking, classical guitar and speaking in rhyme. The film, which opens this August, features an all-star cast including Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and more.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje recently starred as Mr. Eko on J.J. Abrams’ hugely successful drama “Lost,” currently in its sixth season, on ABC. He is maybe best known for his role as Simon Adebisi on another ground-breaking television series: HBO’s prison drama “Oz.” He was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series by the NAACP for his portrayal of the murderous drug addict.

His big screen credits include “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” starring alongside Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, “The Bourne Identity,” “The Mummy Returns,” “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls,” “Congo,” “Unstoppable,” and more.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje got his break into American TV in 1994, making appearances in “Cracker” and “New York Undercover.” He was also featured in several music videos early in his career for such artists as En Vogue, Mary J. Blige, Salt ‘n Pepa, and The Pet Shop Boys. Prior to these roles he worked as a model and lived in Milan, Italy.

He was born in London where he attended King’s College, University of London and graduated with a master’s degree in law. Akinnuoye-Agbaje speaks several languages including Italian, Swahili, a bit of French, and Yoruba, the Nigerian language of his parents. He currently lives in Los Angeles and London.

Business Week: “Hasbro’s G.I. Joe is on a risky mission”
