Operation: Rescue Doc NOT over!

docprofile.jpgDespite rumors to the contrary, the Operation: Rescue Doc promotion isn’t over yet.  The following statement was issued today by Hasbro:

Dear G.I. JOE fans,

Thank you for your support at JoeCon.  We thoroughly enjoyed meeting with you and are thrilled by the reaction we have seen to the upcoming line.  We can’t wait to speak with more fans at Comic-Con next week.

We are also pleased to let fans know that after sending out the full allotment of DOC figures from the mail away promotion, we are producing a second run of figures to make sure that everyone who participates gets a figure.  If you have not received your figure yet, please hold tight as the second shipment is due in September.

Best,

The G.I. JOE team

GI Joe Resolute – a new animated series

gijoe_03.gifWarren Ellis Writing G.I. Joe Cartoon!

G.I. Joe: Resolute

July 2, 2008

Warren Ellis

The G.I. Joe Websites are all abuzz about G.I. Joe: Resolute, a series of ten 5-minute cartoon episodes with a 10-minute conclusion.  Each episode is self-contained, but there is also an overall story arc. These short cartoons, which are targeted at adults, have a distinctly Vertigo flavor since they were written by veteran comic writer Warren Ellis and based on character designs by 100 Bullets cover artist Dave Johnson.  In this series, which is rated “PG-13,” the guns shoot bullets, not lasers and there are real consequences.  Although there isn’t a lot of blood there is lots violence and a hint that major “characters may die.”

The G.I. Joe: Resolute cartoons will debut as Webisodes on the Hasbro Website early next year. Hasbro is also hoping to place the G.I. Joe: Resolute shorts on the Cartoon Network and then release them on DVD.  In addition to releasing a DVD, Hasbro is planning a toy series based on the G.I. Joe: Resolute cartoons.

GI JOE LEGEND LARRY HAMA SET TO HELM NEW IDW COMIC

idw.gifThe following interview by the legandary scribe Larry Hamma.                                           LARRY HAMA G.I. JOE Q&A
The scribe for the new IDW relaunch of America’s realest heroes dishes on the new series

By Matt Powell
Posted 7/3/2008

Comicdom’s soldier-of-fortune Larry Hama has been enlisted to helm the cult war comic G.I. Joe fresh on the slate from IDW. With countless hours of Joe scripts under his belt, Hama’s way beyond basic training to ground the Joes in their new re-launch. A #0 issue of the series will bow this October with an ongoing to begin next January. With series art by Robert Atkins, you can expect the Joes to look good while skinning Cobra hide.

Recently Wizard caught up with the veteran scribe to get the lowdown on his new tour of duty with the Joe team.

WIZARD: Larry, how does it feel to revisit the characters from G.I. Joe?

HAMA: It feels great to be back in the saddle with characters I care about and with an amazing amount of free rein!

Wizard:Before you got back on the title—given your long history with the characters—did you ever find yourself frequently coming up with new ideas for the series in your spare time or in between other projects with hopes of revisiting the team?

HAMA: I don’t really think in terms of plot. Never have. I think that when the companies have to rely on “events” to sell their books, they are admitting bankruptcy of their characters. It should all be character driven. That’s the sort of thing that pops into my head when I am doing something else—”Oh, how would Snake-Eyes react to that?”
