Sideshow Toys officially announces 12″ license

sideshow.gifIn a move everyone has been expecting for a few weeks, Sideshow Toys has officially announced that they will be producing 12″ figures based on the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero mythos.

According to their press release “Collectors can look forward to an incredible line from Sideshow – it’s really a line created by fans for fans – very detailed and utilizing the best modern production techniques, and heavily inspired by the classic Real American Hero era designs.”

Suggested retail price is starting at $79.99, and you can read the full press release here.

Hasbro’s 2008 press release!

Animation Packs? Vehicles? 40 new single-carded figures? 12 new comic packs? New 12″ figures?

It’s Official – Electronic Arts to release G.I. Joe video game

Electronic Arts logoRumors have persisted that Electronic Arts would be producing a GI Joe video game to coincide with the movie release in August of 2009.  This article from Variety confirms a Hasbro/Electronic Arts deal that will result in several Hasbro video game properties, including GI Joe.

JoeCanuck Newsletter #2 online

2008 Collector’s Convention page launched!

The GIJoe Collector’s Club has launched the web page for the 2008 Collector’s Convention. While no hotel information has been listed, this is the first online confirmation of the event’s location.

The February issue of the Collector’s Club newsletter lists the dates of the event as June 26 – June 29 at the Embassy Suites Frisco in Dallas Texas.

Wave 5 will consist of Destro & Iron Grenadier, Cobra Commander Vs. Tripwire, and Lieutenant Falcon Vs. Nemesis Enforcer.  (This last set seems to indicate the potental for “cartoon packs” in the line.)  All three packs have a tentative arrival date of May 2008.

IESB: Cover Girl has been cast!

covergirl.jpgShe may not be from Peoria, IL but according to IESB.net, the role of Courtney Krieger has gone to Czech model Karolína Isela Kurková!  The European supermodel is best known for her work in Victoria’s Secret’s “Angels” campaign.

No word as to whether or not the Wolverine will make an appearance in the film.

sideshow.gifIn what may be the most ambiguous announcement to date, Sideshow Toys unveiled their Super Bowl commercial which features a familar group of characters, glimpsed only briefly in shadow.

The ad promises a “big reveal” Februay 17 – 20 at SideshowCollectibles.com.

Sideshow Collectibles has an established reputation for producing highly-detailed 12″ scale figures.
