Today is Memorial Day

Memorial Day 2016

Today is Memorial Day.  To some, today is a day to enjoy a day off of work, or to fire up the backyard barbecue for a cookout with family and friends.

There is, however, more to the day than that.  Today is the day that we, as a nation, honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.  Today we honor those brave men and women of uniform who laid down their lives so that we might enjoy the freedoms that our society provides.

Originally convceived of as Decoration Day, this day fo remembrance was first observed in 1868 as a way to honor the fallen soldiers of the American Civil War. It has since been expanded to honor the sacrifices of all US soldiers who fell in the line of duty.

Take a moment today and reflect upon that sacrifices that these individuals have made.  For without their bravery, we might not live in the world that we do today.
