Joe Con 2016: Meet Skydive and Sky Creeper

The Joe Con 2016 previews have begun!!!

I’ll admit it– I’m behind on this.  Last week the Joe Con 2016 brochure was published online and revealed the theme for the 1:18 scale set– Sky Patrol!!!  The 1990’s Toys R Us exclusive aerial team is finally getting a Generation 3 update and will be available as part of this year’s Joe Con event.

Yesterday, the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club pulled back the curtain even further

Skydive:

Joe Con 2016 SkyDive

SKY PATROL SQUAD LEADER: SKYDIVE

– 25th Anniversary Modern Style/Fully Poseable Action Figure
– Highly Requested Character from 1990’s Sky Patrol Team
– Includes removable Helmet and Goggles, Assault Rifles x 2,
Glider backpack with moveable wings, G.I. Joe Logo Stand.

Hmmm… I like it!  It’s a solid update to the classic design and it makes good use of the Data Viper body which very closely replicates the 1990 Skydive body.  I also like what appears to be a reuse of the 25th Anniversary Mutt head that resembles the original Sean Connery-esque noggin.   It does appears, however, that parachutes won’t be part of the team this time around as the Resolute jet pack makes another appearance here.  Sure, it’s not “100% vintage accurate” but it does give the team a pretty slick update if all of the Sky Patrol team will be using them.  Color me impressed!

Sky Creeper:

Joe Con 2016 Sky Creeper

COBRA A.D.D.E.R.S. LEADER: SKY CREEPER

– 25th Anniversary Modern Style/Fully Poseable Action Figure
– NEW Head Sculpt on 1st Modern Era Character Release
– Includes removable Tactical Vest, Sub Machine Guns x 2,
Glider backpack with fold-out wings, Cobra Logo Stand.

Well, we’re definitely diving back into the “neon 90’s” once more with the Sky Creeper.  He’s sporting a brand-new head sculpt while the rest of the body makes heavy use of previously-tooled parts including many that the Club used two years ago in the construction of their Eco-Force Ozone figure.  While he’s not a figure that I’m personally excited about, he’s a pretty good match to the design of the 1991 original Sky Creeper figure.

As far as the vintage match-up, both figures actually look pretty solid.  Check out these comparison images:
