Joe Con 2016: Altitude & Night Vulture revealed

When it comes to Joe Con 2016 the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club isn’t letting any grass grow under their feet!  Another day and two more image previews from the 1:18 Sky Patrol set have been revealed.  Tonight, feast your eyes on Altitude and the Night Vulture.

Altitude:

Joe Con 2016 Sky Patrol Altitude

SKY PATROL RECON SCOUT:
JOHN-EDWARD “ALTITUDE” JONES

– 25th Anniversary Modern Style/Fully Poseable Action Figure
– Highly Requested Character from 1990’s Sky Patrol Team
– Includes removable Helmet and Visor, Assault Rifle, Knife,
Parachute-style backpack, and G.I. Joe Logo Stand.

Okay, at first glance Altitude looks pretty good when compared to the 1990 original figure.  The original figure was based on the body of the Conquest pilot Slipstream and I’m surprised that the Club just didn’t take the obvious path and merely reuse the body from the 25th Anniversary Slipstream that was released at Target a few years ago.  Instead, it’s the old Club standby of the Pursuit of Cobra Duke body to the rescue.  Plus, that helmet and visor combination isn’t exactly known for its ability to remain securely on a figure’s head.  Hmm… not as impressed with this one.

Night Vulture:

COBRA A.D.D.E.R.S. TROOPER:
COBRA NIGHT VULTURE

– 25th Anniversary Modern Style/Fully Poseable Action Figure
– THREE Troop Builder action figures in this box set.
– Includes removable Tactical Vest, Trench Knives x 2,
Crossbow, Glider backpack with fold-out wings,
and Cobra Logo Stand.

When it comes to the Night Vulture, the Club seems to have used the body from the 25th Anniversary Snake Eyes v3 with the head of the G.I. Joe Retaliation Cobra Trooper.  It’s actually not a bad way of replicating that original 1991 Night Vulture design.  Plus, there’s another winged glider back to add some aerial capability to the figure.

How do they stack up when compared to their vintage predecessors?  Hmm… the Night Vulture fares a bit better in this department.  Don’t get me wrong– I’m happy to see a generation 3 update of Altitude but the execution on this one certainly feels a bit lazy.  The Club has milked all the miles they possible can out of that Pursuit of Cobra Duke body, that’s for sure.
