G.I. Joe Collector’s Club January Newsletter to Update Status

GIJCC update

It looks like the January issue of the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club newsletter may potentially offer more information about the recent changes in Collector’s Club memberships that were revealed before the holidays.

Amidst a great deal of speculation over the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club forums, the “FubPubAdmin” account posted this bit of text:

All the information we have has been released. No further details are available at this time. We continue to take renewals so that members that expire between now and March 16th can still get the 2016 FREE figures, as these are two of the best figures we have ever produced!

In addition, as a continuing active member, you will still be eligible to purchase FSS 5.0 should you desire to participate.

So…. FSS 5?!  That’s either a typo or Fun Publications’ relationship with the G.I. Joe brand may have a bit more life in it for 2016, aside from delivering FSS 4.0 and running the Colorado GIJoeCon in June.

A bit further down the thread, one last bit of information regarding the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club was posted:

Please check the January issue of the GIJCC magazine for the updated membership information.

It’s not exactly a tell-all novel but these two bits of information do shed some light on the forthcoming changes to the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club and to Fun Publications.   Either the GIJCC will try to squeeze out one more FSS in 2016 before year’s end or their relationship as a provider of G.I. Joe products might be changing in 2016.

Could Fun Publications continue on as the source of new ARAH-era figures while a new entity takes over the annual G.I. Joe Collector’s Convention?  Could this be a sign that Hasbro is finally moving away from the ARAH nostalgia and taking Joe in a new direction beyond 2016 as part of its new Cinematic Universe?  (Thereby putting the focus of the official events on whatever new direction G.I. Joe takes while allowing Fun Pub to serve as an outlet of ARAH-themed product to the shrinking collector base?)

It’s all idle speculation as of now but we’ll provide any updates as we uncover them.

  1. FYI, Adam Riches confirmed that “FSS 5” was NOT a typo. Considering he does most of the card art for the FSS lines, I’m assuming he has already begun work on the 5th installment.

  2. Has anyone heard about the JoeCon set for 2016? Could it be that FSS 5.0 might be in lieu of a Con set? That would make sense from a production perspective if we are running close to an end of a relationship… Just a possibility.
