JBL old forums]

Who began Joe*Battlelines?
That would be Brian Savage Peterson, who used to be the military consultant on the comic when DDP relaunched it. The site was SgtSavage.com back then and remained that way up until Hasbro opted not to renew the copyright.
A short history of the site can be found here:

How long has it been active?
Pretty much since 2000 when Sarge, Drew and a few others left DDP. It's been under the JBL moniker since about Fall 2003.
How many people are considered "in charge" of the site now?
I'm the owner and senior admin. I asked Justin to function first as a mod and then as a co-admin to help out with various aspects of the site. Technically he's my "right hand" (the one I don't wash) and partner-in-crime in the site now. I've also got the mod staff who help keep an eye on things and serve as a "board of directors" whenever there are big decisions to make.
How closely connected are the founders, if at all, to Hasbro?
Pretty much not at all.
What are the daily requirements of running the site?
It all depends. I pretty much peruse the forums as often as I can (which with my current job means once I'm home each day.) It also takes time to write reviews/interviews/features and shoot the plethora of photographs you see here. For every picture you see here I probably shoot 10 more that you don't see. It's a labor of love so it doesn't always "feel" like work but there are times when I'd like to take some time off. I also compile the Daily News which takes up to 2.5 hours a night to search all of the Joe sites/forums/web and compile a list of what's new in the community/fandom each day.
What's the most satisfying aspect of running the site?
Reading that people find this site and forums useful and helpful. That's really what JBL is all about-- creating a useful resource/forum for GIJoe fans to use as well as a place to come together and talk about this property we all love so much.
What's the most difficult aspect?
This all depends upon which day you ask me. At times, it's a bit frustating to find out that a lot of folks don't know the site exists. At other times, it's knowing that a lot of work will go into something behind the scenes that no one will ever know about-- such as upgrades, site overhauls, etc. This site is pretty much a labor of love-- there are no perks from Hasbro, GIJoe Collector's Club, or pretty much anyone else but that's not why JBL exists in the first place.
I'm just really interested in this place since it has practically become my home page these past few months.
See, it's comments like this that make it all worthwhile. Glad you find the site useful and that you've chosen to hang your hat here!
Thanks,
-Monte
