History:

Little is known about Breakdown's life before the Army and even when questioned he only says as much as is required. What is known is that as soon as he was old enough to join the army he dropped out of high school, passed his HED, and enlisted. After basic he served for three years as just another infantryman doing his job. That is until one night on leave with a couple of buddies when a biker group decided to "have a little fun". The smart thing to do would have been to run, after all one of the men was wielding a chainsaw.

Breakdown just picked up his beer walked up to the guy and said to him: "listen I've had a hard week and I'm trying to relax. So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to buy you guys a round of drinks and then you're going to get on your bikes and go home. Otherwise I'm going to take that toy away from you and beat you so bad your momma won't recognize you."

Several hours later at the base hospital, when he regained consciousness, Breakdown found himself being debriefed by Flint of the G. I. Joe team. Breakdown was quick to ask what had happened because the last thing he remembered he was holding his own with half a pool cue and a chair seat as a shield. Flint explained that Breakdown had received a blow to the side from a cinderblock hammer wielded by the Dreadnok Road Pig and if the Joe team hadn't arrived he'd probably be dead. However the thing Flint was most interested in was how Breakdown had stopped Buzzer's chainsaw since the eyewitness reports were so confused.

Breakdown just smiled and replied that he wasn't technology compatible. Flint frowned and placed Breakdown's dossier on the hospital table. Pointing to the multiple warnings not to allow Breakdown near any complex equipment and ordered him to explain. Breakdown sighed and explained how no matter how careful he was that anything technical had a habit of breaking when he touched it. That was the reason he had dropped out of school in the first place. He'd break everything from staplers to computers. If the object had multiple moving parts or required an electrical current it would break or short out when he touched it. It meant that he had to work twice as hard as everyone else did. However his problem made him good at infiltration because locks and alarm systems never worked and even though he couldn't use a machine gun he was an expert with a bolt-action rifle. He was also proud of the fact that he could pick up just about any object that was lying around and use it effectively as a weapon. The same day that Breakdown was released from the hospital he found himself transferred to the Joe team.

"Who needs Cobra when we have Breakdown on our side?" Hi-Tech after the first, and only, time Breakdown entered his lab.

Name: Pounce
Primary Specialty: Tooth and Claw Combat
Secondary Specialty: Pet

Trace’s first project involved modifying the Venom serum in order to give animals near human intelligence. Trace started by using the Razor Claw strain to modify tiger DNA. However the modifications had unintended side mutations. At first the cub that was born seemed normal however as it grew both in size and intelligence so did the realization that the chimera had more in common with a saber tooth cat. Pounce, still had the coloration of a tiger but the sabers and short tail of a sabertooth. Also his sabers were more tusk like than the bone of true sabertooths giving him a much more powerful bite. Trace’s superiors were impressed but they wanted something a bit more spectacular. So while continuing to hand rear the cub Trace began work on the Draco project.

Trace has a nack for adjusting to any situation that he finds himself in.

Throughout school he passed his classes with the highest marks, even though he only bothered to show up for class two or three times a week and even then he never spent the whole day. When he wasn’t in class he was either at the genetics lab with his mother or on the street beating the crap out the local toughs. The one place he was never at was his stepfather’s home. He never knew his biological father but he couldn’t have been worse than Fred Black. When he was still living at home Fred constantly tried to get him into civic organizations like the Cobra Youth Corps however after a single meeting Trace knew that wasn’t for him. There was more fun to be had in Broca Beach if one broke the rules. Besides what did it matter how he acted so long as he kept his grades up?

One of the best days of Trace’s life was graduation. He had the highest number of scholarships and acceptances to the best universities. His Valedictorian speech was short, simple, and completely edited out of the graduation video. In its place his boring rehearsal speech was cut in. But he didn’t care he was finally free. In college nobody partied harder or got better grades. Trace took three times the required full time credits and only showed up to a quarter of the classes with the exception of labs and physical ed. which he attended regularly. By his second year he had earned multiple degrees, several pharmaceutical companies and a couple of research labs hoping to get him to sigh contracts to work for them had approached him. However it was the lab that his mother was working for that finally convinced him that he could do more than advance theories in scientific circles. The presented him with information on everything from genetic enhancement to full human cloning.

So even though he hated the idea of moving back to a company town he packed his bags and moved to Springfield. He had worked for four months before he discovered a secret that would change his life forever. While moving converting the basement, of the house the company had provided, into a lab he discovered the hidden entrance to an already existing laboratory. Inside he found extensive notes on a project to create super soldiers. However the program was halted due to the fact that it was to slow. Manipulating the genes of sperm and eggs to create the perfect soldier was scrapped in favor of the Venom Program; which enhanced adult specimens. However the researcher had continued her research on her own. Two subjects were created T1 and T2. Twins with enhanced strength, reflexes, and learning capabilities. She presented her findings to the company, who were impressed with her work. They transferred her to a larger lab in Broca Beach with T1. T2 was to remain in Springfield to be raised by his father. The last entry in the files had been made by T2 himself. Now calling himself Tye it read:

“If you are reading this then I have either been removed from Springfield or I have escaped. My name is Tyler White and I have come to realize that my entire life has been a farce. I was created for the purpose of being a soldier for a terrorist organization known as Cobra. My talents have been molded so that I’m an expert in computer programming and robotics. This, I hope, will be the organization’s downfall. I’ve used my abilities to set up an escape attempt. If I’ve escaped then I hope to find and rescue my twin; if not then I’ve likely been moved to Cobra Island and I can only hope that I’ll be able to find a way to escape though I doubt it is possible.”

Not knowing what had happened to Tye, Trace purposely bungled an attempt to escape Springfield. He was captured and transferred to Cobra Island. He was later extricated by Ratchet and the Joe team during a covert operation to discover whether the orbital recon was true and that Cobra had somehow created not one but two species of dragon.

When Prowl, first asked to join the team the Generals didn’t think it was such a good idea letting another former Cobra join. When they found that his specialty was as an animal handler they said “We have enough dog handlers.” That’s when Prowl brought in Primal and Dare. “It was difficult to tell which we were more impressed with, the sabertooth cat that rubbed up against his leg like an overgrown housecat or the Dragon who asked what all the fuss was about. Needless to say we allowed Prowl to join on a probationary basis and assigned him to Wildside’s research group.” (Gen. Colton)

File Name: Rogers, Jason Steven

He-Man: chest belt, Razor: Shield, Zeus Gundam: Lightning Hammer, Lego King Jayko: Cape, Ultra Corps: Purple Knife and Sheath

History:
From an early age Jason knew what he wanted to be when he grew up, a super hero. He grew up on Power Rangers. In school he was the one always protecting the smaller kids from bullies and making sure that no one broke the rules. Junior High was a shock for Jason because that was when he started reading comics but it was also the point where he discovered that, super heroes weren’t real. Unfazed he devoted himself to sports. He believed that if he couldn’t be a super hero then he would have to train his body to the peak of perfection in order to become an ordinary hero. This opened up several possible career paths from sports star to law enforcement. In high school he was captain of both the baseball team and the football team. He avoided the girly sports like basketball and soccer and though he considered wrestling he decided it was just a bit to gay. However in his spare time he earned high ranks in several martial arts.

The fact that he wasn’t valedictorian at graduation didn’t bother him because he’d already decided that further intellectual education wasn’t necessary. Instead he joined the army. Steve, by this point he’s started using his middle name because it was the name of a comic book super soldier, quickly moved up through the ranks to Captain and had led multiple missions into enemy territory and every time his team came out with only minor injuries. That is until his last mission.

It was a routine patrol and they had nearly returned to the green zone when they hit an IED. Steve was the only survivor. Though his wound was serious he was expected to make a full recovery. In light of his excellent military record he asked for a transfer to the G. I. Joe Team. However he learned that the team had be disbanded. Worse still he was then given a medical discharge because of nerve damage that left him without the ability to feel pain.

Steve returned home and tried to get a job with the local police force. Eventually he was able to get a position with an independent contractor but it didn’t last long due to the fact that his superiors clamed that he was “a loose cannon”, “he used unnecessary force”, and “he was a danger to himself and others”.

Dejected and unemployed Steve packed his favorite comics and movies into a pick up camper and set out to find a place in the world. Eventually he was arrested for disorderly conduct when he got into a fight with a biker gang in a bar outside the town of Springfield. He would have won if the police hadn’t shown up.

The next morning, Saturday, he expected to be released like all the times before. Instead the guard told him that the gang planned on pressing charges and he’d have to wait until Monday to go before the judge. Monday morning Steve met with his public defender. He was quick to point out that he wasn’t read his rights and he didn't receive his one phone call.

The lawyer slapped a file on the table and asked one question. “Is this your military file?”

Steve opened the file and was shocked. About the only things that the file had right was his name, blood type, ID number, his petitioned to join the Joe team, and his medical discharge. He was furious.

That was when the lawyer told him that the Joe team had been reorganized and reactivated as Sigma 6 before Steve had applied for a transfer. Then he asked him if he might consider joining Cobra. Steve took one look at the lies in his file, ripped it up and said that the first chance he got he was going to make them pay. By noon Steve had a costume befitting a hero and a new name, Retribution.

Retribution (The Real Story):

From an early age Jason wanted to be a super hero. Anything to get away from the abusive life he was living. Whenever he could he’s watch Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In school he was shy always avoiding the other children in fear. Both of being picked on and that someone would learn that he was being abused at home. Junior High was a shock for Jason first because his father was killed in a bar fight. It was as though a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. It was also when he started receiving an allowance that he used to buy comics. Unfortunately it was also the point where he discovered that, super heroes weren’t real.
Not wanting to ever be beaten again he started taking martial arts classes. He hoped that one day he’d be able to one day become a police officer. In high school he began trying out for sports but he was always to short or just not good enough no matter how much he worked to be better. He avoided soccer and wrestling because he decided it was just a bit too gay. He continued with martial arts in his spare time though he didn’t progress up the ranks like the other students because he lacked the discipline.

The fact that he didn’t receive any scholarships at graduation bothered him but he decided that he’d join the army in order to avoid the monotony of working at the local burger joint. Steve, by this point he’s started using his middle name because it was the name of a comic book super soldier. This change didn’t help him. Corporal Steve Rogers was a completely average soldier. He did his job well enough but it was unlikely that he’d ever move up through the ranks. During his tour the only time he left the green zone was when we was being rotated back to the states.

Steve’s unit was en-route to the airport when their vehicle was hit by an IED. Steve was the only survivor. A piece of shrapnel was lodged in his head. He could no longer feel pain. He was expected to make a partial recovery and he would be able to return to civilian life but he’d never be able to return to combat. Not because of the physical injury but because he could no longer distinguish between reality and fantasy. He believed that he was a war hero and that even with his disability he should have been transferred to the G. I. Joe Team. He was informed that G. I. Joe team had been disbanded in order to protect him from himself.

He was given a medical discharge and an appointment with a V.A. physical therapist near his hometown. He never showed up to the appointment. Steve returned home and tried to get a job with the local police force. However in light of his military record he was politely refused. Eventually he was able to get a position with an independent contractor as a truck driver in the war zone. However the job only lasted one month. He was fired due to the fact that he was a danger to civilians and as such a liability to the contractors continued operation. He was told that he was “a loose cannon”, “he used unnecessary force”, “he was a danger to himself and others” and “he needed to get help”.

Dejected and unemployed Steve packed his favorite comics and movies into a pick up camper and set out to find a new place in the world. As he traveled he devolved into a creature much like his own father had been. Eventually he was arrested for disorderly conduct when he got into a fight with a biker gang in a bar outside the town of Springfield. He had kicked the crap out of most of the gang, paying no attention to his own wounds. He might have been killed if the police hadn’t shown up.

He spent the weekend in the hospital though he expected to be released like all the times before once his injuries were patched up. Instead the nurse told him that the gang planned on pressing charges and once he was in stable enough condition he’d have to go before the judge. Monday morning Steve met the public defender in his hospital room. He was quick to point out that he hadn’t been read his rights and he didn't receive his one phone call. The lawyer told him that the ploy wouldn’t work since he had been read his rights it was just that he was too drunk to remember it. As for his one phone call the phone had been next to his bed the whole time and he hadn’t bothered to call anyone.

The lawyer then placed a file on the table and asked one question. “Is this your military file?”

Steve opened the file and was shocked. It was his file but the only things that the file had right in his mind was his name, blood type, ID number, his petitioned to join the Joe team, and his medical discharge. He couldn’t understand how it was possible that his file was nothing more than a work of fiction.

That was when the lawyer told him that the Joe team was real and that it had been reorganized and reactivated as Sigma 6 before Steve had applied for a transfer. Since then the full roster had been reactivated but they didn’t bother to contact him. Then he asked Steve if he might consider working as an independent agent. Steve a second look at the lies in his file, ripped it up and said that the first chance he got he was going to make them pay and he didn’t care who he had to work for to do it. By noon Steve had a costume befitting a super villain and a new name, Retribution.

File Name: Williamson, Daniel Tigris

Hometown: Shoshone, Idaho
Affiliation: G. I. Joe
Primary Specialty: Genetic Engineering
Secondary Specialty: Berserker Combat
Favorite Book: "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abby
Favorite Movie: "Stargate"
Favorite Song: "Holy Diver" by Dio

Figure: Grand Slam

Profile: To most of the people that Wildside grew up with only three words could describe him big, dumb, and average. The school coach wanted him for the football team but he never bothered to get his grades above average. Besides he had to spend most of his time helping his grandparents keep their ranch going. However that was only his public face. In his spare time Wildside spent hours training himself in the use of edged weapons using methods he'd gleaned from books on medieval combat and survival techniques in the surrounding environments. When he wasn't training he was studying university level topics. Everyone, except the local librarian, was surprised when at graduation Wildside received the most scholarships, grants, and choices in Universities. When questioned on how he had achieved such an accomplishment with such low grades and test scores he would ask why he should have bothered doing homework and studying for tests that were geared to the average student.

Wildside then burned through a double Masters in Zoology and Anthropology and a Doctorate in Genetics and was thoroughly absorbed in the field of research dedicated to preserving genetic samples from animals on the edge of extinction. However due to his talent of being able to make intuitive leaps when dealing with complex problems the U. S. government asked him to join a team researching a WMD known as Venom. It only took him a few hours to realize that Venom was a retrovirus that combined animal traits with humans turning them into super soldiers. However the serum was flawed in that it completely suppressed the human intellect. Wildside was added to the research group trying to formulate a cure. He loved the challenge and immersed himself in the work. However while working on a cure he also worked on trying to perfect the Venom so that it could be used safely with little to no negative side effects. When he believed that he had perfected the Razor Trooper strain of the serum he tested it on himself.

He felt the results were less thrilling. He didn't feel stronger, faster, or smarter. However he also didn't feel a drop in intellect or an increase in aggression. In fact over the next few weeks the only change that he did notice was that most of his hair dark brown hair developed light brown stripes. The other older researchers just put it off to the fact that he was young and going through a phase. Soon the changes continued and the stripes began to appear discolor his skin. At first it was easy to hide the stripes under the long arms of the lab coat and with make-up. He also began to notice that though he wasn't physically getting stronger his stamina had greatly increased and he was developing a taste for rare meat. After several more months of careful observation his abilities stabilized and he hadn't developed any detrimental side effects.

He had just decided to reveal his discovery to his co-workers and the military when he was attacked by a large number of robots bearing a red Cobra symbol. At first he couldn't believe it. Sure he'd heard rumors about a terrorist organization known as Cobra but he hadn't really believed them. But now here was proof standing around him slowly raising their weapons. He realized that not only had Cobra been the original creator of Venom but they also knew about his involvement in the research. In that moment calm controlled Dr. Williamson snapped and the engine of destruction known as Wildside was born. When the G. I. Joe team arrived what they found surprised them. The twisted metal remains of a platoon of Sky B.A.T.s and Wildside sitting in the center of the destruction in meditation. After that Wildside was placed with the G. I. Joe team both as a formidable soldier and scientist but also as a way to keep him under military observation.

"Wildside fits in really well being able to geek out with Hi-Tech, spar with Snake Eyes, or work out with Heavy Duty. Best of all once he takes off the lab coat he becomes a real party animal. Just never ever get between him and food; you're likely to loose a finger or an arm." Tunnel Rat

At least that was everyone thought until he disappeared. He was completely off the grid for several years. At nineteen he was working as a ski instructor in Colorado when word got to him that immigration was after him. In order to avoid being deported he joined the military as a fast track to citizenship.

UPDATE 07/25/08:

Bill gave me another CD a couple weeks ago featuring some outdoor photos he'd taken on a camping trip, and while I wasn't about to try to "speak" for his original characters, I figured rather than simply posting the photos, I'd go Modern Day Geek Creek and make a comic out of it (whilst staying Old School Geek Creek in keeping it silent.) Hope ya like it:

I really didn't expect to see everything posted all at once.

I should point out for the record that the only bios that are complete are the ones for Breakdown, Wildside, and Retribution. Everything else is basically a place holder to help me remember what I had planned until I can get around to completing them.

Also even though all of my customs are works in progress evolving as I find something that works with the character; Badlands and Deluge are really in the raw stages. Tiger Claw about midway to completion but I'm just not happy with the upper body. He needs more armor/padding but I haven't found anything that suits him just yet.

Oh and thank you Monte for doing this for me. Now I'm just going to have to open the morgue/fodder box and come up with some new characters. ;)

You'd be surprised how long it took. I was nearly nodding off on the couch by the end. :)

I could tell some of the bios weren't complete, but I figured posting them would provide you with the incentive to finish 'em. :)

Amazing, man...simply amazing. A great new universe with some terrific customs! The changes are all fairly subtle but make a world of difference. What a great array of characters and customs. Good stuff.

Very cool stuff.

I love it when people make their own characters or do their own take on an established character!

 I absolutely love your Badlands custom. I thought it was a cool, salty character until I got to your bio and then I really loved it. I was born and raised in Montana a little outside of Billings. Awesome, awesome job. He looks like a tough woodsman. I also love that rifle you have for Ratchet. It looks perfectly in scale and could have easily been included with a sigma fig. :D
You can never go home again, Oatman ... but I guess you can shop there.

Yeah, Dusty, Badlands is totally one of my favorites, too. If I could sculpt and paint, I'd totally steal it, 'cause he's perfect for a long series of dios I have planned.

I also now desperately want a Hi-Tech head with blue hair.

I do my best to keep my bios within the existing Joe universe (Marvel Comics version of ARAH anyway) since that is the one I know best. However since the whole Arashikage mythos is overly complicated I decided to go with the who traditionalist splinter sect who aren't exactly evil they just want to preserve their traditions and to that end they go on missions against everyone from G. I. Joe to Cobra to internal groups such as Billy or the Red Ninjas.

Oh and I like your story by the way. You're better than I am, going off and creating your own Joeverse. I have WAY too many other projects and a universe of my own to try and keep order in to create another one.

Thank you, but it isn't a knew universe. Every custom, with the exception of Tiger Claw, may be a new character but I've done everything I can to keep the characters within the realm of established lore. Sure a dragon and a sabertooth might be a bit over the top. However so is a race of plant people, Cobra Commander turning into a snake, Valor vs. Venom, and well everything Serpentor. ;)

Tiger Claw was a one off. He was the first custom that I started and will likely be the one that I'm never going to be satisfied with. At the core he is just a Ninja Armor Snake Eyes with the green painted orange. It was shortly after I'd finished painting him that I found battlelines and after seeing all the great customs of established characters I was convinced that I would only work on my own characters.

Besides I can pull characters from my own writings give them a bit of a tweek and have ready made Joe characters e.g. Tye, Trace, and Prowler . . . er Ratchet, Prowl, and Wildside. :o

Well I guess that tells me which bio I'm going to have to write up first. ;)

I only wish it had been that easy. It was from the Action Man Arctic Mission and I had to shave down the back of the grip to make it fit. On a side note the clip is removable and Gears is carrying the extra two clips in one of those pouches.

Sculpt? :?: :?: :?:

SCULPT!

The only custom work I've done is to pop a Gung Ho head and Shockwave hands on a Flint body and then hit it with a bit of cheap dollar store Antique White paint. And I'm highly skeptical of my painting skills as well.

Monte Williams wrote:I also now desperately want a Hi-Tech head with blue hair.

That would cost you substantially more than a toothpick. Much stress and swearing goes into my painting attempts and in the end there is often more paint on my clothes then on the figure. :D
