G.I. Joe Renegades on hiatus...

Postby Leonardo T Dragon » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:59 pm

Sometimes I hate it when Justin is persistent on finding out information-- because what he finds out isn't always good.

Renegades will go on hiatus after the first season. Apparently the decision was made so that any subsequent animation would be more in step with the next live action movie.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Well, not that I've been a big supporter or fan of what they've been doing with G.I.Joe but this isn't the best of news. I've been following the show since it's debut and it's had some interesting storylines and nostalgia for us "older" Joe fans. Usually when something like this is done a show either doesn't come back or is retooled into something completely different. I don't see what the sequel has to do with the production of the cartoon.

Hiatus is never a good thing. It seems that hiatus is always the first thing before "cancelled" pops up. They always say they are pleased right up until the axe falls. Kind of like Sigma 6.

ARGLEBARGLE.

Feels like I'm gona be foaming at the mouth, here! It's not so much losing the show (which does suck) but the fact that Hasbro is incapable of seeing far enough ahead to NOT FREAKIN' MAKE A BRAND NEW SHOW, when they're planning on letting the NEW MOVIE float the franchise! If they wanted G.I. Joe to be fresh in people's minds until the movie came out, then why the heck didn't they make and advertise Renegades as a mini-series?! You wana make a fresh new story with new designs - COOl. Well love it. We're on board. How about making sure there isn't gona be something REAL SOON that's gona make you wana cancel it, though?

I just hope they have the decency to finish this story in one season. Or at least finish part of the story line. I just don't see the point in wasting money like this. It's like they make this huge thanksgiving dinner when they were completely aware that only a few people would show up.
OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.

It seems a shame to put a hold on it when there are a bunch of Renegades fans out there. If they are concerned about storyline conflict with the movie then there doesn't seem to be a lot of sense to bring it back.

Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about. They go ahead and make a show that people like (I assume) when they knew that the movie would be coming out with a different story. I mean, unless they DIDN'T know the movie was coming out? I just can't imagine that this wasn't in the plan already, and if it was, why did they put money into - what seemed like - a full reboot and a brand new SERIES? Like I was saying, if they knew there was gona be a movie that they wanted to use as a boat for the series, then why didn't they just make a mini-series to keep G.I. Joe in the public's eye until the movie? Just seems like they put a lot in to this toon only to get rid of it. Resoulte was a little movie, bascially, and it did it's job well! It kept G.I. Joe fresh and maybe brought in some new people. Renegades could have been the same, but they sold it like it was the NEW G.I. Joe, and now they're just trashing it.

Exactly. It seems to make more sense like you said to have Renegades be a "non-cannon" story arc that is a little longer than Resolute to keep Joe fresh in the mind until the movie. I realized I just paraphrased what you already said. Apparently I'm very lazy today.

You have to wonder why Hasbro even made this show. Like Alexx said it should have been a mini series or maybe what would have made even more sense it should have been a high quality series that was just Joe vs. Cobra. No high concept re imagining of the origin. A series set in the middle of the conflict that could fit with several different continuities.

I just downloaded Renegades and started watching it and man I'm impressed. I don't know whether it is really good or that my expectations were really low. My first impressions of the animation stills was that it kind of looked low quality. After watching the first few episodes I'm definitely taken in. The characters are great - Tunnel Rat really cracks me up - the story is solid and all in all it is really cool. I'm know in the "Bring on season 2!" camp. Boo hiatus..... :scott

I'm almost done with the season and I really think Hasbro missed a brillant chance here. Some of the episodes were okay but by and large this is a great cartoon. I love the design and the weapons and it would have been an opportunity to tweak the mythos. I sincerely hope that once the Retaliation hysteria dies down that they come back to Renegades. Unfortunately hiatus pretty much means it got the axe. After all Sigma 6 is still on hiatus.
