How Often Are You Playing With Your Sigmas These Days?

Postby Monte Williams » Wed Jan 27, 2010 4:30 am

Howdy Folks,

As you probably know, I have been forced to adapt my toy collection to accommodate the circumstances of my life; I have moved to Africa, and there was simply no way to fit my Sigma figures in our luggage, so they are all boxed up in a storage facility in idaho, and in the meantime, I took a chance on Rise of Cobra figures; my logic was basically, "They're small enough that I can bring a bunch with me, and they have something of a Sigma 6 aesthetic."

I have learned to love the small Joes (it took a few years and three or four attempts before it happened), but I don't take as many photos as I used to, again due to the circumstances of my life (which is going great, lest I sound self-pitying!)

I only shoot in my front yard these days. Here are the results, if you're curious:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/45848670@N02/?saved=1

Moving on, I recently spent some time organizing all the toy photos I took in Idaho. I deleted literally thousands of photos 'cause some were redundant and others sucked; I got it down to about 200 of my favorites, and looking through them, 98% of them featured Sigma 6 figures, and it made me realize all over again how fun those toys are.

I haven't "played with" my Sigma 6 figures in six months. (Whatever "play" means to you.) Hell, I haven't even seen them in six months; I may not see them for a few years at this rate.

My question is:

How often do you play with your Sigma 6 figures? Are you as obsessed as over, still photographing or customizing or even simply posing?

Have they taken a backseat to some new obsession?

Did you stop collecting toys when Sigma 6 died?

Also...

How the heck is everybody?

Cheers,

Monte

I'm still buying fodder and collections within reason...

scrapped the terrordrome project, losing the job and lacking space or motivation had a big effect.

I started looking at maybe selling some of my early ones I plan on redoing... then think of better uses of the parts...

My Dad joked about seeing if I could get a custom Coffin made to look like the Sigma Crates for when I do go. He also called me at 2 in the morning when he saw the Sigma Six logo in the credits of the movie... he went to a midnight release and I didn't? he looks and acts like Chow Yung Fat in Curse of the Golden flower...

I'm still customizing trying to fill gaps year by year or team by team- got a box of pyroBATS that need painting -
looking for guest stars as well
Col Courage from Spiral Zone,
I've had no luck finding hologram stickers that fit the Visionaries
Army of Two
Centurians
Captain Power

far as playing.. heh yeah it's easier than dusting every two weeks

Now that's customizing...

I look at my sigma's almost every day. I have them in a glass case next to my tv. I haven't made any new customs do to lack of inspiration. I think i have made every Joe i wanted and about every non Joe character I care to make.
I had some extra bodys and fodder hanging around and am trying to sell them to get some extra cash for future Projects
Since our daughter Zoe was born (that is right I have 2 kids now what was i thinking) I am a stay at home dad. So trying to finance new stuff from selling Older stuff I am not gonna use. That Said The sigma stuff is not moving like it once did. So although alot of people might love the ones they have
not sure they are investing in any more.
Good as always to hear from ya

My Sigmas are unfortunately "between homes" at the moment as I packed them up from one place (in preparation for the arrival of my second daughter) and have yet to set them back up in the new place yet...but every time I walk by that box I stare at them wistfully. Does that count as playing?

a day does not pass that i dont see my personal collection of sigmas, my customs (destro , darklon, salvo) displayed at my desk. I have 2 drawers of loose joes that my son likes to grab from when he comes out here. My son still has the entire collection in his room and i often see various joes in new poses (still monte inspired!) in there. He has taken a liking to Flint lately. And now the younger boy (almost 3) has taken a liking to playing with them too, specifically the metal mayhem SE with a Ninja Bike grey Sword beats everyone up, even the bigger BAFs we have (Blob,Pitt, Monkeyman, Apocalypse all fall to the generic blade of straight arm fury.

Getting out doors with camera has proved to be a difficult hobby to get started on but as far as "playing" with sigmas it is definitely a daily event here.

Making customs has been slow for me not for lack of inspiration or time, just seems other interests are enveloping my little spare time, but I see this as a life long hobby whereas the other interests be it video games , online cards , wasting money on ebay, sleep will likely fade soon enough.

Cheers!

I get to play with mine. My 4 year old son loves playing G.I. Joe so I get to relive my childhood. I also change the poses of the guys once in a while. Thank goodness for the hooks and ropes that came with several figures. I love those things. I plan on getting a few outside in the snow for some pics before it melts. I haven't bought any in a while, but I do want a couple more for some simple customs I'm thinking of.

Other interests have come up lately. I bought a Wii and we love it. So not as much time with the Joes, but at least a couple of times a week.

Cool pics bty Monte.

It's good to hear things are going good for you Monte. I'll get away from being interested in my sigma figures for a while and get into something else but so far I aways go back to the sigma figures eventually. Right after the movie came out I got into trying to redo some of my older 12" figures with sa-joe bodies. I modified some of the HOF joes and even some adventure team figures. I wish I would have had them as a kid. I got in to Resolute and ROC figures for awhile. My latest interest has been getting a few of the Masters of the Universe classic figures but now I'm getting back interst in sigmas again.

Damn....
I just packed and boxed my Cobra Sigma shelf like three days ago.
I had to make room for all the new MOTUclassics.
It felt weird packing them but I hardly played with them or even touched them in atleast a year.

I do have my Joe core Sigma Team still up here on my desk.

Last time I played with them was when I got the Ground Blast Heavy Duty and opened him up.
THese toys have some great fun charm to them and I will always think of them as one of the best toy lines ever.

But for now they'll be in lockdown until I get more room.

i actually just got to unbox some.. had to expand my shelves to get them out...

and i still need to sort through some stuff.. and add more shelves to make all the joe stuff nice and tidy..

but

i still love these toys.. and thats just it.. i love toys period.. sigma6 being one of the top 3... customs have kinda taken a back seat.. i felt like i was letting it get in the way of time i could be spending with the wife.. i do a little here and there , but i found myself sitting here till 6 am.. churning out 4-5 customs a night , when i could be talking with her or something else..

and i have been going around to different lines that i like picking up things here and there.. and with that i have had to make room in the toy room.. which is still in progress , even after being in this house for almost a year...
