Marvel's 18th toyline?

Postby AdrienVeidt » Tue Jul 22, 2008 7:39 pm

Thanks to Push You Down over at JC; we've got this enigmatic response in the CoolToyReview questionairre:

Cool Toy Review: Can you comment on the rumor of a new Marvel Heroes 3 3/4" figure line?

Hasbro: We don't have any new news to share here..furyfiles.com..

Which leads to this Hasbro page, with a promise for more info come Friday the 25th.

After the complete and utter failure of the DCIH line, which I saw on the shelves today; this line won't have to work hard to knock it right out of the park. Make a standard buck fig for both men and women and 'webgear' accessorize as necessary; and I'll gladly pay $8 for a good fig of everybody in the Marvel U - including Willie Lumpkin!

My dream, some day, is for a Alfred/Willie Lumpkin crossover mini-series. I'd buy it three times over.

MN: Will a new Marvel 3 3/4" line debut at SDCC this year?

Hasbro: Three and three what? Currently, we have no news on a 3.75" line.

They dont even know what 3 3/4'' is...
How could they possibly make a line on it. ;)

Yeah, for some reason there actually seems to be a fair number of posters on Marvelousnews.com's forums that are all-but-adamantly opposed to a 3.75" line for Marvel. Though I think their concern is that the line would be replacing the "traditional" MLs altogether (a concern that seems to be unfounded, at least at this point). Either way, I think they're crazy.

But yeah, that answer was being tossed around by a bunch of 'em as "proof" that no 3.75" line was in the works. At least until a few of us pointed out the way Hasbro has a tendency to carefully word their answers when they don't want to announce something too soon. In other words "No news" doesn't mean "we aren't working on it." ;)

I think my greatest hope at this point would be that Hasbro unveils an assortment that's so unbelievably awesome that Mattel has no choice but to rework the Infinite Heroes from the ground up just to make them competitive.

These would be really cool if they were done in a similar body style as the 25th anniv. Joes. Heck, I could imagine Hasbro doing some part swapping back and forth, as well.

Who knows? It could mean that more body types get made since there would be more uses for each one.

True...I can't imagine anything Hasbro could do other than a 3.75 line that would really generate that much excitement. I'm biased - I love the scale, but are there any other scales or formats out there as popular as 3.75 that would generate as much excitement as a 3.75 line? Maybe there is?

Those guys over there are idiots. I'm sorry but they are. They believe there can only be one line of Marvel figures. It doesn't seem to matter to them that G.I. Joe among others has multiple different scales of figures available. I swear it is like talking to a wall to explain this to them. :billy

Yeah, they seem to fall into two camps:

"I don't want it to replace my traditional Marvel Legends!"

or

"It's just gonna be exactly like Superhero Showdown which sucked!"

Yeah, except Sigma 6 did actually replace 3 3/4" Joes anywhere that wasn't the internet or later TRU.

Ehn, I thought they were pretty neat toys, just a little too big and expensive for me to collect in large numbers.

Well, anything they make will hopefully be better than the wobbly brittle guys that Toybiz came out with. I liked 'em, but they were hard to do anything with (that, and Iron Man broke at the midsection). I am seriously thinking that Hasbro is the golden god of toys right now, and I have faith that we'll get some awesome stuff. It's just sad that Mattel hasn't looked over at Hasbro and figured out how to create and market a toyline to adults yet.
OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
