My brother, the JLU geek, informed me a few days ago that the line was going to continue to produce singles and three-packs, but be Target-exclusive.

I haven't read anything to that effect, but 1) he hasn't steered me wrong on that stuff before, and 2) I'm not all that interested anyway. But I figured it would be an interesting nugget to toss out for some of you guys. :D

you know, i've gotten several of the jlu figures, and they are great and all, but they just cant stand worth a hoot. i think i will like the infinite collection, just because they are somewhat normal looking, not hugely distorted, even though the hawkman looks huge, but that is just a model, so even it should be more managable when it actually comes out.

also, i've been looking at posts throughout the boards, and its funny how articulation is so important to most joe fans, but not to some fans of other lines. while joe articulation would be great, this is probably the only time so many lines of 'known' brands are all out in 3 3/4" formats. as a kid, it was always odd to play with my toys when he-man was so big, and joe was small, and superman was in the middle. i still hold out hope for motu in 3 3/4", but know that will never come to fruition. anyway, the best things to come out of the 3 3/4" explosion are all the different accessories (the indiana jones horse, artifacts, and vehicles are going to be awesome!), as well as mixing and matching universes, just to get back to our childhood days. THAT is what has me excited about all these toys.

They've been making Hawkman a pretty big dude for a few years now, to play up the 'barbarian combat' aspect of him I think. This fig should be representative of that in comparison to the Thanagarians and the rest assuming they represent the norm height of these guys.

Most of the Marvel people also deem articulation as important. Heck they foam at the mouth if any 3 3/4 inch line is speculated on. Over at the ToyNewsI.com boards they thought the 3 3/4 inchers were going to replace their coveted 6 inch line.
I think the Mattel groupies have been kept so long in the dark with crappy articulation even one new POA makes them excited. I'm just excited to get any of these characters in this scale. I'm not to keen on the Indy accessories since they are mostly 1940's - 1950's related. I hope Mattel makes some playsets & vehicles to go with DCIH. A Batmobile would be great!

Articulation is important to me as a figure's body language is the only way for a toy to fully capture the character's many moods. A statue can capture a character's mood of a moment or split second in time. A fully and properly articulated action figure can capture a character's *every* mood, in a perfect world.

Worthless and fubared articulation like t-crotch hips and no-swivel arm beer grip can't express *any* useful or realistic moods at all, imho. How many people really sit down with their legs precisely in front of them and their backs straight? Human beings move with ball motions at nearly every single joint in their bodies, and successful action figures capture this to as close as possible.

Mattel has yet to have grasped this information, while companies such as McFarlane Toys (with the just-released Halo figs), Takara (with the plethora of MicroMan figures, both modern and 30-years old), and Hasbro (with Joes and increasingly so with SW figs) have known about it for years and decades now.

Articulation isn't a luxury for action figures, it's an assumption.

More info revealed here: http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/main/?p=518
Infinite Heroes
1. What is the release schedule for these? IH will be on shelf at the end of the summer.

2. What is the actual scale of these? Are they truly 3 3/4"? or more 3 3/4" Scale? They are 3 3/4 figures.

3. Are these the finished sculpts or just mockups? They seem to be in a couple of different styles. Figures like Green Lantern have regular anatomy on the torso, whereas figures like Batman have a very angular anatomy. Some look like they are the same base bodies with just painted detail (Flash) where as others have a TON of sculpted detail (Black Hand) The figures shown at Toy Fair are prototypes. Many did not have the articulation built in yet. We hope to have final sculpts to show at NY Comic Con in April.

4. Any word yet if Wal-Mart will be carrying this line? We continue to work with Wal-Mart and all of our customers. In the end, it is up to each retailer to decided which Mattel products they want to carry.

5. Will the 4 Horsemen be involved in the line? Not the IH line. The Horsemen will remain our sculptors on the 6 inch DCUC line.

6. What is the estimated retail price? - 5.99 for singles, 15.99 for 3 packs.

7. How many figures per wave? That will be announced at NY Comic Con.

8. I know big names need to be held back, but there’s some glaring absences (notably Superman, Wonder Woman, Robin, Joker, Luthor, etc). Are we looking at 2009 at the earliest for some of those characters? Again, we will announce all character selection at NY Comic Con.

9. There was close to 30 figures shown. How many waves are we seeing here? Is this all 2008 product or do the characters shown spill into 2009? The figures shown at NY TF are there to educate retailers about what they can expect to see in the line. All of these figures are prototypes and not all will wind up in the 2008 line. By the time we reach NY CC we will have a better idea of the line up and can make a more direct announcement to the fans!

Hey all,
I've seen a few folks mention they were thinking about getting rid of their 6 inch DC Superheroes in anticipation of these. If anyone is, I just posted on the trading forum about the 6 inch DC Superhero figures I am looking for. Check it out!

I am totally stoked to see this happen. I love the 3 3/4 Scale the best because of the, well infinite possibilites. With the price of plastic ala oil, goes up, my budget for 6inch scale is going bye bye. Anyone see the MSRP for the new Hulk figures. $14.99. I am going to buy them becuase I think that Fing Fang Foom would look incredible against 3 3/4 scale Marvel Legends, that is rumored to come out this year.

My first thought at seeing these figures was actually pretty grim. I thought, man, these are shiny. Then I later found out that these are just protos. That perked me up. Then I thought of the possible character selections. I almost drooled over my keyboard. I have been collecting DC Direct for 5 years and character selection sucks. Every damn wave is a new Batman or Superman or Both.

DC Universe Classics are great but I am not even going to touch them in favor of Infinite Heroes. I listened to a podcast the other day about it and they have 45 characters planned for 2008. And they aren't hitting the shelves til late summer. IF this line continues into 2009, I can see well over 100 original characters next year. Count me in. They actually might finish building teams. Dream come true if you ask me.

News from New York Comic Con.....
Infinite Heroes - Mattel's new 3 3/4 scale line

There will be 54 figures in all released in 2008, including both singles with chases, 2-packs, 6-packs and a TRU exclusive 8-pack.

The Singles Wave 1, due in August, has - Adam strange, Black Adam, Black Hand, Guy Gardner, Zoom, Atom (modern version) and Shazam.

The 3-Pack Wave 1 will be Commissoner Gordon and 2 SWAT agents; Flash, Mirror Master and Weather Wizard.

54 figures in 5 months....... Holy $*!#.

The big rumor that the TRU exclusive 8 pack is a Green Lantern Set. who is in it is anyones guess but its looks like the rule book has been throw out on this line folks..... Just look at the assortment in the Singles Wave 1. NOT ONE MEMBER OF THE BIG SEVEN ARE ANYWHERE TO BE SEEN. IMO that takes big brass ones.

I can see this line kicking a$$. Imagine the playsets..... Imagine the vehicles....

Go Mattel....

Just a note: According to the last Q&A they did, in addition to the "Big 7" they also consider Shazam/Captain Marvel, Hawkman, and Green Arrow as "Core" characters. So yeah, we're not getting Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but we're getting Captain Marvel instead. And Flash in the three-packs.

Holy crud... With Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe and this DC line, it's going to be expensive this year... Honestly, though, this is the line that will suffer for me. I'll be picking and choosing from this line. I might buy multiples of the Commish Gordon pack for the police, but other than that, I don't think I'll need to buy extras for customizing.

Man, I really hope they put out a Jamie Blue Beetle (what is that? Beetle 2? 3?). He'd fit in well with my Joes. I've already got a storyline worked in for him and everything. Wraith suit v1 ;)

But, I agree with you, Hunter. I appreciate the fact that we are not getting WW, Bats, or (Thank God) Superman in this line yet. Kind of refreshing.
