The All Purpose Transformers Thread

Postby Red Sox » Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:54 am

I did a quick search and there isn't really a catch all Transformers thread so... guess I'll start one! :)

I'm a fringe TF fan, but I really love the Classics line. Recently I picked up Sea Spray and Huffer from TRU and I ordered Thrust, War for Cybertron Prime and Bumblebee from HTS.

I really like Sea Spray. Like someone said in our Top 10 thread, Hovercrafts are cool! I know Sea Spray doesn't look a ton like the WHALE, but I think it would be neat to see how it would look repainted in a WHALE color scheme.

The War for Cybertron figs look cool and I'm anxious to see how they look in person when my order arrives. The upcoming Megatron and Soundwave WFC figures look pretty badass too.

I'm happy that Thrust is out and Dirge is coming soon. Now they just need to get us Thundercracker.

Seaspray is one of my favorite Transformers, I've been waiting for the new one to hit my local stores. He finally gets updated. I designed an update for him about a year ago, one of the TF espisodes that always stuck out in my mind is the one where he becomes "human" for awhile.

I'm so glad Hasbro is going back to a more "classics" line with the new toys, never got into all the movie ones.

Yeah, I enjoyed the movie well enough, but I'm just not at all into the aesthetic of the robots. The only "movie" TF I've bought was Bludgeon, but I consider him more of a Classics series than a movie bot.

Sweet, now I got a place to post this:

Image

War for Cybertron Prime, obviously, but it turns out he has peg holes in his arms and on the tires on his back there! You can plug 'em full of weapons! So, I took weapons from various Primes and beefed him up. Also, if you flip his hand inward, you can mimic his arm axe!

Image

Considering how perfect it is, I'm disappointed that he didn't come with the axe from the game. Any weapon works, though! They just made his hands transform in the perfect position to be able to do so.

I'm guessing he took it off the TF Animated Optimus.

Yeah, it's from a two pack of Animated Optimus and Megatron. They were both unique molds they didn't use outside that twopack, and I think that's the only way to get that particular axe.

Picked up the Generations Autobot Drift today. Awesome transformer! Really like this Generations line, plan on picking up Bumblebee and Thrust eventually and maybe Prime. Can't wait for Megatron to hit shelves, that one is a must buy for sure. Looking forward to future releases of this line, they are way better than almost all the movies figs imo.

i dig the Cybertronian lineup along with the Classics. though i liked the Movie versions as well given they were great updates especially for vehicle modes. an F-22 Raptor for Starscream was just awesome.

i'm looking forward to Cybertronian Soundwave. he is a standout decepticon with the coolest 'toon voice and mini-army of minions to boot. a voyager or even leader class Soundwave would be nice.

I'm going to hit TRU today in hopes of snagging some PoC and MP Grimlock. What are the odds I come home with anything? :rich

Well I didn't come home with anything that day, but I managed to snag MP Grimlock a couple of weeks later!! He rocks and it's officially the first MP that I've transformed!! It was fairly easy to swap his modes and I appreciate that. Lurking around some TF boards I often see people complaining about how "simple" a transformation is. For the life of me I don't get that line of thinking. I don't want to have to screw around with these things like a damned Rubiks Cube!! :crazy

Next on my list is WFC Megatron and Soundwave.

I can understand both sides on the transformation thing. The puzzle of figuring out a transformation is my favorite part of getting a new TF, but it does get kind of annoying when it takes 20 minutes to switch modes.

The only transformations that really annoy me, though, are the ones where you've actually done everything right, but you wind up massaging panels around for as long as you spent doing the actual big movements.

Just saw the new Generations Blurr, Red Alert and Dirge. Not bad for repaints/tweaked sculpts. I want all three, but only picked up the Blurr for now. Couldn't justify all three at $17 each.

Dark of the Moon stuff is showing up, and honestly I was gona stay away from most of it (save for Shockwave 'n awesome stuff like that). Ran into Cyberverse Megatron, though, and I'll be damned if he didn't look cool. I don't regret buying 'em!

Image

Image

He's very articulated! In fact, he's just as articulated as you'd expect the 12 dollar size to be. I really think this is a full figure, just in a smaller size. I don't know why they didn't do this before! As usual, when they shrink down a toyline and keep what makes it great, I'm all for it. Cheaper and takes less space.

Anyway, as you can see, it's a good amount of detail for the size. You can even see how his face is all messed up (though he lacks the cloak I've seen in other previews). Looks like a pirate!

Then of course, for a weapon, Megatron's tank turns into his fusion cannon:

Image

Image

He can double-gun it like that, or put them together like he does in the first movie:

Image

I think that's kinda dumb, though, so I just put 'em together and put them on one arm, classic style:

Image

Image

Finally, he's VERY easy to transform, and the process is kinda fun because of that. You can get him into a good looking truck and back again in a few seconds!

Image

If it's one thing that excites me about a Transformer, it's a transformation process that isn't confusing as hell. When it's hard to transform, I don't feel like messing with 'em as often, and then it feels like a waste. Anyway, as you know already ,he bascially comes out a little bigger than a hot wheel:

Image

I love' em! If the rest of the Cyberverse figures are this well done, then I'm gona get into this tiny line.
