Low turn out for the convention??

Postby toy-nutz » Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:27 pm

Just got this email from the Club about the Convention

I have several updates for you so please read the below and keep checking GIJoeCon.com!

It is only 35 days until the show!

We have been adding guests each week and still have some more that will be coming. This will be one of the largest gathering of G.I. Joe Celebrities (Joeleberities) ever so keep watching GIJoeCon.com!

There are still seats available for both classes and the Hasbro tour.

March 31st is the deadline for accepting personal checks for your registrations.

We still have some dealer booths available, so talk to your favorite dealers and make sure they are at the show!

If you are planning to enter a contest, please let us know by April 1st. Please submit your fan films by April 1st for pre-screening.

April 16th is the pre-registration deadline. After that date, you will need to come to late registration at the show Friday morning April 30th, availability is not guaranteed unless you pre-register.

We will not have any Adventure Team pieces available at the show. They will not be here from China in time. We will have final samples for you to view at the show. Pre-orders are running hot so get your's in as soon as you can. These will ship 3-4 weeks after the convention.

You will receive your confirmation letters and pickup times for Thursday night in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your support and see you in RI!

Brian

Wow, still have room for the Hasbro tour, that was only limited to what 3-400?? (guess this means I made the tour!) Also the Customizing Class is still open (good thing as I need to register for that!) and that is open to 50. It does not totally surprise me though as this is a bad time for alot of people, though I have to wonder what it would of been like if it was closer to the end of May/early June. Oh well, I know I will be there wednesday afternoon!

and this is a suprize???

Sorry but MC has made terrible desisions and overpriceing items for years, looks like its finally cathing up with them. Attendance has been going down each year and more and more complaints are being logged about the cons. With so many strikes against it I am surpized the club has lasted this long.

Since the whole Mauler-gate (I don't know why one of the collectors that are attorneys didn't make the club stand by their contract) and Johio-gate (I won't even go into the whole break down of ethics and illegal activity that occured there), the conventions have not been as fun as they were in the past. For what it cost my wife and I to attend the convention for a few days, we can go on one heck of a week long trip.
Considering the convention exclusives MIGHT if you are lukcy break even on ebay with rare exceptions, I am looking at you Piper, shows the price of them is too high. I skipped this year more because I just can't justify the increaing cost to attend a 3-day convention anymore that offers very little I haven't heard or seen. As for the news that comes out of con, yeah, I will see it 10 seconds after the people there. Not seeing my Joebros is the only small part that sucks, but honestly, most of the guys I started going to con and having drinks with are droping each year. Yes, I could go meet new people; I can also go to a bar, church, hang out, or comic shop to meet new people. I guess I reached the point where con began to give me deminishing returns.

I am not discussing the Johio thing (neither will anyone else); just stating that is one of the more determining things that killed some of the fun for me.

OK so that begs the question if you are not going to discuss it then why bring it up in the first place. I am not MC fan at all, but really mentioning something and not explaining to those who obviously have no clue what your talking about is almost worse than not saying anything at all.

So for anyone else: you got a clue what he is talking about?

well.. a few things:

1) the con being in April was just a bad idea, too soon for a lot of people and too early from last Joecon.

2) I disagree about the numbers dropping (you would only know that if you actually ATTEND Joecons frequently) Last year in Kansas City had almost TWICE the numbers of Texas in 08, and thanks to the movie, a HUGE number of new attendees. while this year a lot of regulars cannot make it.. there is also a large number of Newbies coming and returning from last year.
A lot of the newbies don't really know all the nuances about joecon, so they just might not have signed up.
A perfect example: Most of the new attendees Ive met last year are members of hisstank, but not anywhere else, and it seem that only a selected few people over there know anything about Joecon (mainly Me, Roshan, and shogi)

3) Johio-gate

its isn't really a subject worth talking about. (considering its been almost 3 years) Like talking causally about a rape (which is probably a perfect analogy)

to clear the air I will say this:
a) it didn't have anything to do with the club officially, but the club got involved, and then it BECAME official.
b) its the reason why several people do not post on boards, or attend Joecon anymore
3) its obviously a powerful and sore subject if it affected people who don't live anywhere near Ohio... me included.

at this point its just best to let it go. Kinda like how no one really talks about what Hisstank did two years ago that made the Joe community hate it so much...

4) Location

a lot of people are complaining that the location of Joecon this year is an issue..... it isn't.
the only ones I see an issue with is the vendors who are realizing because of the economy, this just too expensive to drive this far. especially lugging merchandise.

Some people can't make it because of personal financial reasons, but that's THEIR fault, or economics fault, not the club's.
I had no problem flying from Boston to Texas in 08 (the same distance, or FARTHER than some people had to fly/drive) and it would be the same problem or WORSE if Joecon is in California next year.

As my mother always says:

"he who wants will find a way, He who does not will make an excuse."

some people simply can't make it this year, whether it be financial, or personal. the Ones I can't stand however, are the ones who complain all the time about the club and Not once stepped into a Joecon. ....what are you basing all this hatred on? OTHER people's opinions?

Well, honestly, I can bring up what ever I want and not explain, I owe you nothing or an explanation.

And KoP, my family and I have been to plenty of Joecons, my opinion is very much based on experience.

I will say one good thing about the club; I believe the make outstanding product.

I get your Hisstank example but at the same time if I brought it up in conversation and someone asked what it was about I would be very up front with the information and not play "I know something you don't know, NAH-NAH!"

Well, honestly, I can bring up what ever I want and not explain, I owe you nothing or an explanation.

Well see above, Add to the fact that with your "NAH-NAH" responces you have taken the wind out of anything you said before or since. Siteing an example and not letting those who don't know about what the crap you are talking about just alienates everyone, including those who agree with you. Playing games with information just makes you look childish.
