The staff and their role here at the site

Postby Leonardo T Dragon » Wed Oct 20, 2010 9:28 am

All,

It seems like forever since I've "de-lurked" to post something of this nature. The past few years have been an "interesting time" for me both personally and professionally and I find myself having less and less time to devote to the site. It's not a lack of love for all things JBL but rather a shifting of priorities in which 'real life' has kept me away from these hallowed halls more than I would like. As such, I'm not able to be as active in the discussion as well as the maintenance of the site.

This is where the site staff comes in.

This group of diligent individuals has volunteered to keep an eye on the site and to help maintain order. They are not compensated for them time and efforts in any way. I know these individuals both in person and by reputation and am willing to vouch for the integrity and commitment of all of them in keeping JBL functioning as a place where all voices are tolerated, just as long as those voices are respectful of others. In accepting the mantle of "moderator" or "staff", they have given up much of the freedoms they once enjoyed as "John Q posters" and instead have to adhere to a higher code of conduct as they now represent the site in interaction with the members.

I will stand by their decisions in matters concerning the Code of Conduct. Only in rare circumstances will I over rule the decisions of a moderator or staff member and only when reasonable doubt still exists. However, this is the EXCEPTION and not the rule. If the staff render a decision regarding the status of user, I will listen to reasonable appeals but don't assume that it is an "automatic override". Also, if there is a dispute between the staff here and a member, I also expect for the parties involved to behave in a reasonable fashion and keep that dispute private. Allowing board drama from one site to spill over onto others accomplishes nothing aside from making the individuals involved look petty and invoking my ire. In this respect, I reserve the right to revoke the posting privileges of any individual found engaging in such practices.

I respect the judgment, diligence, and perseverance of these individuals and expect that the members here will do the same.

"Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."
