Pretty easy Repeater fix, with a bonus Hardball

Postby Werecat » Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:59 pm

Good news for those of you out there who were upset at Repeater’s needless race change. As it turns out, it’s a very easy fix to make him true-to-form, and give us a simple but effective LBC Hardball as a bonus. The only catch, is, you’ll need to buy two ‘Joe sets.

Repeater and Footloose share the same body, just with different flesh color. So if you have an extra Footloose, you’ll have a Repeater body with Caucasian skin tone. And you don’t have to worry about a proper Repeater head. Hasbro already helped us out on that angle! The extra Zartan head very much harkens back to White Repeater, because it has the patrol cap and black hair. So simply stick this head on the Footloose body, and you have an instant Repeater. You can even keep the same web gear, as it’s similar enough to the original figure in design.

Then, all you have to do is paint on some hair on the Black Repeater head, and give him Heavy Duty’s grenade launcher; or one of Marauder John's, and wallah!, instant Hardball! Two great figures, and both are true-to-form despite being modernized.

Or, if you’re sick of that Zartan head for Repeater, you can always take a Serpentor head, paint on black hair like with Hardball, and pop on the cap. That will give White Repeater a more individualized look, but it may look awkward if both he and Hardball have the same head.

*And yes, the Resolute Roadblock machine gun is a little flimsy, and the barrel will droop down from gravity.

Thats some pretty outstanding custom tips. Cheers for that :)

couple of queries

1. how well does the cap fit on the serpy head?

2. would the cap fit with any other dark haired 25th A heads that may look vaguely like repeater?

1.) Marginally. It can stay on if you squeeze the hat onto the head, but it was really geared for Shockblast, so if you shake the figure or move him around too much, it will probably pop off. It's too shallow to really grip on tight.

2.) It works with some, not so great on others. The slightly larger heads seem to hold it better than the really small or narrow ones.

They both look really sweet! Yeah, I'm not happy that they made the figure Repeater, Hardball would have been just fine.
To whom gave me my first avatar, I guess "What happens at the Joe con, stays at the joe con?" went out the window :)

Now I want to see a "proper" Footloose using the TRU Stone body.

I have yet to find the desert pack, but this is a GREAT idea. And if you only want to buy one, then buy the value pack with "Pit Trooper" as well and slap that Footloose head on that. With the black harness from the "Pit Commando", you've got a nice Footloose somewhere between the '85 and DTC versions.

Again, FANTASTIC idea, Werecat. Now to get that desert pack and get me a Hardball and Repeater...

The only problem with this is the skin tone of the Zartan troop head doesn't completely match Footloose's arms and neck.

Just scored the Joe5pack, and i'm very pleased. Hardball looks good without hair in my verse. No problem for a good Footloose body and gear. And the extra Zartan body makes an awesome desert trooper with a simple headswap. All in all, this is a very satisfying set. Keep it up, Hasbro. Just hope Breaker and MainFrame hacks in soon...

Found this set yesterday. The first thing I did after opening it was make a Hardball with bonus traditional Repeater. I'm not too fond of the Sgt. Stone vest, but it helps keep Hardball from being too bland.

Anyway, thanks for this tip!

Another not bad potential option for headswap for repeater is the use of red star head.

The sculpt is a little aged and a bit John Wayne so i think its quite a good representation of classic repeater.

I have tried the shockwave cap and its fits fine; just have to wait my desert pack figs from the US :(

I will post pics if i get the time and looks ok.
