Since spring training is over maybe we should have a new thread for the regular season.
My Sox are off to a pretty good start, I'm very happy with the pitching staff thus far. The starters are doing great Schilling, Beckett, Dice-K, and Wakefield are all off to great starts, Jon Lester should be coming back soon to push Tavarez back into the bullpen. The pen is doing well and Papelbon may be one of the best closers in the game. Pitching wins championships as my boys proved in '04. And the Yankees are sucking which is always nice. I know it's early but I love seeing the Spanks sputter out of the gate. |

Hey, nothing to be embarrassed about.. the O's look like a decent team this year.. or at least average (certainly not poor). For at least average teams, anything is possible in 162 games.
Dice-K actually got hit around a bit tonight, but the Bos still won I think, which is all that matters. I don't think Dice is as lights out as the Sox thought he'd be.. seriously. But he's still much better than average, which is good enough.
I almost hate to say anything for fear of jinxing them.. but the Crew is doing WELL. They're not running away with the division, but they're showing, so far, with every series, that they can beat anyone. That's awesome to see... its ABOUT time. I've been a Brewers fan since as long as I can remember (about 1978 or so.. I was 5) so as you can imagine, there's been a whole lifetime of frustration with that team (other than a few years in the early 80s).
I guess its just neat to see the Brewers & Brewer fans actually have a little confidence in the team for a change. Damn its been a long time... *shakes head* Some guy on ESPN's baseball tonight said something about the Crew being the 2007 "America's Team".. man.. I HOPE so! lol..
There's a LONG way to go yet though.. by no means am I counting beers before they're delivered. _________________ 8/25/07.. my son Seth attended his very first full-pads football practice at the age of 8. I can now die a happy man.

Dude, my Cards keep tripping over the feet. Unfortunately, sometimes literally. Their baserunning last night KILLED them. Not to say they're out of the running, like my AL team is...EVERY YEAR... But they got to start helping themselves out. I haven't been keeping up with them as much as normal (new distraction and all ), but the things I've seen were painful. Hopefully they'll start focusing and get their head's straight.
Dude, what about LaRussa's blow up yesterday at the reporter? From what I understand, I respect the Tony for doing that, but I'm thinking that a lot of it had come from a frustrating start to the season. Apparently one of the newspapers in STL wrote Chicago off this year, and something fueled a confrontation at the press meeting after the game. Interesting...I've never seen LaRussa lose his top like that.
As a Reds fan as well, it's nice to see them doing well. Unfortunately, it does sound like Griffey's taken his familiar position for the team: the bench. Hopefully he'll get back to help them out.
You know what sucks about Indy? It's not a baseball town. I mean, sure, they have a minor league team here, and they're doing well, but no one cares. I grew up around Cincy...and man, that's like home. Gotta love baseball towns.
Oh? My American League team? The Kansas City Royals. Yeah...shaddup. _________________ Makes you want to taste the rainbow!

Sadly I've spent most of the season wondering why my Cubs cannot win close games or do anything in extra innings. The much discussed "juggernaut" offense has been anything but. It really pisses me off when two of the Cubs starters (Lilly and Marquis) have pitched very well, but receive minimal run support. You know Ted Lilly must have been furious to get something like 1-2 runs of support (total) over two games. I was originally not pleased about the signing of Marquis, but he has had a very good April beating his former club twice in a week.
D-Lee and A-Ram are slugging well although D-Lee seems to have a slight power draught. I'm glad that Pinella has FINALLY given young Theriot a chance to start. That guy has been a fantastic catalyst for the offense. Soriano is really not a gopod choice to lead off...OBP is way too low. I'd love to see him batting #5 so he can lead off some innings and use his hitting prowess to create a murderer's row (Lee, Ramirez, Soriano) in the middle of the line up.
Oh well, the season has started off in pathetic fashion. It would be nice to see some more runs. The NL Central is wide open. This should be an exciting season (if my boys get the memo on NOT SUCKING).
Honestly, I was surprised about LaRussa getting mad. Maybe it was more out of respect for Pinella than the Cubs in general? _________________ That's some Grade A Bang Bang. |

I saw that.. & was pretty proud of him. Did you see the fat-ass reporter who he was arguing with? I wish Tony would have socked him in the mouth.
And I agree with Tony. Sure, he doesn't control the papers, but then he also has the right to disagree and/or be upset about what is written when it comes to his team (good or bad)... and I DO think that the Cubs were given some prime bulletin board material.

I hate to generalize, but most sports reporters are only a level above roach droppings in terms of intelligence, analysis and doing anything interesting. _________________ That's some Grade A Bang Bang. |

Here I was psyched about the final Cubs-Cards series and find out the Cardinal's RP Josh Hancock died today.
This Cubs fan wishes the Cardinals and their family my most sincere condolensces. _________________ That's some Grade A Bang Bang. |

Well.. not anymore (as of the end of the night on 5/1/07). That title now belongs to the Brew Crew..
But I am am not deluded either.. lol.. I am sure they won't hold it for long. Still, its really cool to see them atop the MLB mountain after 1 month in the books. _________________ 8/25/07.. my son Seth attended his very first full-pads football practice at the age of 8. I can now die a happy man.

I have to give some well earned props to the Brewers. They are playing baseball the old fashioned way...stock your farm system with talent and raise them to MLB when the time is right. I think the Brewers have excellent position players. Their pitching staff is going to be the weak link (if any at all) in the team. The NL Central is wide open right now. This should be an interesting season. _________________ That's some Grade A Bang Bang. |

Back atcha though man.. the Cubs are finally playing some decent ball as of late & seem to be heating up. Yeah, I don't think ANYone out there knows how the NL central is going to wind up. It's a complete mystery right now.. with 5 months to play yet. _________________ 8/25/07.. my son Seth attended his very first full-pads football practice at the age of 8. I can now die a happy man.

This sucks! The Rocket was always my favorite player growing up, and it hurts me to see him on the Yankees. TWICE. I was really hoping the Sox would land him so he could finish his career here and set everything right. |

Why exactly do the Red Sox need an expensive antique? You already have a very potent starting rotation and a solid closer. Furthermore, the Red Sox have a very effective batting order and defense. Do you really want a mercenary like Roger Clemens? Even if he pitches like he used to, the Yankees have a patchwork starting rotation. Do you really need to sign a pitcher that will be worn out by September or October? _________________ That's some Grade A Bang Bang. |

As a Sox fan, I would have loved to see Clemens here for nostalgic reasons (and as worn down as he might get, he'd still be an upgrade over Julian Tavarez... ), but when it comes right down to it, I think we'll be fine without him.
Considering reports are saying that he asked for 28 million dollars simply so he could make 1 more million dollars than A-Rod and the Yankees lapped it right up...
I hear everyone saying how this will reshape the American League East. We'll see. Frankly, I'm not convinced a 45 year old pitcher who hasn't pitched in the AL in almost 5 years guarantees anyone anything. It sure will be interesting to watch, though!
