Best Joe Leader:General Hawk-he could always get the mission accomplished, even if it meant expending some of the Joes, but he wouldn't give up on his Joes, and would always try a rescue...........

Best Cobra Leader:Destro-master strategist, excellent tactician-didn't throw away troops like Cobra Commander.........

Worst Joe Leader:none-all the 'team leaders were qualified

Worst Cobra Leader: Fred VII as CC-incompetent and totally uncaring of the lives under his command.......his only successes came by having the Baroness in his camp............

Wow.. lol. This covers quite a bit. Very Happy The questions are also pretty open ended.. i.e. Worst Cobra leader in terms of bad decisions, most evil, inability to motivate troops, worst looking.. etc..etc. Lost of different directions to go there, each to his/her own definition.

I guess as far as my personal definitions go, here's probably what I would go with:

Best Joe Leader: Hawk
Worst: Duke (not that he doesn't have his moments, but overall...)

Best Cobra Leader: Gotta give Serpentor his due as far as leadership
Worst: Crimson Twins (good at MANY things.. troop leading isn't one of them)

Fav characters: Recondo & major Blood
Fav vehicles/playsets: TTBP & Water Moccasin

Man.. too many good comic arcs to pick just one. I guess the original invasion of Springfield was among my favs.. as we SE Declassified & the arc where Recondo gets introduced & makes an offering to the River gods.. (??? Shocked ) Worst? Probably the DDP original arc.. with the White house lawn battle. *shudder* That's right up there anyway. Not a huge fan of TF/Joe crossover arcs either & I won't even start on the whole Reloaded thing (sorry Phil.. lol). Wink

I think i have a lot of favorite toons too. The Jungle Trap always comes to mind as a fav.. but there are many. My Favorite Things is excellent too.. & I'll always love the Lady of the Lake toon (Excalibur, etc). Excellent visuals.

Worst? The DiC stuff is all bad imo.. even operation Dragonfire is marginally watchable for me. I'd watch any S6 toon over the DiC stuff, and if you know me & S6, that's really saying something. Very Happy

Best - Hawk
Worst - (I'll get back to you)

Quote:
The worst and the best cobra leader?

Best - Destro (His IGs never turned on him)
Worst - Fred VII, he was nothing but a puppet of the Baroness

Quote:
The worst and best joe or cobra toy or character?

Best Joe/Cobra Toy - I am still a big fan of the Tomahawk

Best Joe/Cobra Character - I'm a big Hawk fan. For Cobra Firefly has always been fun as well.

Quote:
The best comic story or series or cartoon episode or movie? The worst ones?

Best comic story - PIT Fall (GI Joe #53)
Best comic series - Gotta go with the original Marvel run, you just can't mess with a 155 issue run. (While I enjoyed Reloaded, I can't say it was the "best")

Worst comic story - GI Joe Special Mission #24 (Ladies Day) - 'Nuff said
Worst comic series - Transformers vs GI Joe (by Dreamwave) - Thought the story was ok, but I absolutely hated the art. It is the only GI Joe series I don't re-read.

I will pass on the cartoon episodes, since I can not even name a single episode.

Best movie - GI Joe The Movie - even with Cobra La, the animation was amazing and the action was great.

Best Joe Leader: Stalker - Sure, he wasn't the head honcho, but how many times did he take a small group of joes out in the field and ruin someone's day? I loved the story where he takes Roadblock, Gung Ho, Rip-Cord and Recondo out to rescue Dr Burkhart (again!) Someday, I intend to make some customs of those Russian snipers that took out the Tucaros. Runner Up - Flint - He just ruled.

Worst Joe Leader: Sgt Slaughter - I have a soft spot for this guy, but the only time he ever led anyone in the comic, he let a group of petty thugs break into the Pit and get away scot free.

Best Cobra Leader - Cobra Commander - I always felt that his schemes were second to none in diabolicalness (is that a word?) Sure, more of his troops troops got killed than were necessary, but hey, he's a fanatic. The cause comes FIRST.

Worst Cobra Leader - Fred VII - not really a leader , per se, but he was "Cobra Commander" for awhile, so he does qualify. Man, was he incompetent. But I guess that was the point.

Best Story arc - I absolutely loved the storyline that began early in the run with the introduction of Gung Ho, Doc, Airborne, and Snow Job fighting to stop Destro and some Cobras from releasing a plague, and continued to Cobra destroying the psuedo-headquarters of the Joes. This story got Snake Eyes away from the joes and allowed some other characters to develop further, and it gave us the legendary Kwinn, Dr. Venom, and Scar-Face. I don't know how many times I reenacted the battle at Washington DC with my joes as a kid!

Best Vehicles - Moray Hydrofoil. I had sooo many battles with the Joes boarding this thing, or this thing attacking my TTBP or USS Flagg

Best Playset - I had the Flagg, I had the Terror Drome, I had the 83 HQ. None of the can equal the play value of the TTBP. It was just so much more versatile than all of them. I was constantly imagining scenarios where my Tomahawk would drop this thing close to enemy territory to give the Joes a temporary HQ. Sure, it was great in the water so the Moray could attack it, but I also used it on land too. I thought an HQ that automatically gave you the high ground was a good thing, especially with the little radar station and Anti-Aircraft guns to not make it such a sitting duck.

Best Figure - 85 Flint - His sculpt is amazing. From the textured shirt, the shotgun shells, the paratrooper badge, the US logo on the belt buckle and the shells on the belt, the two color jungle boots, the cocked beret and grin making him look like the most cocky, yet determined SOB on the joe team that got the job done in style. It didn't end there. His filecard was probably the best in the entire line. The blurb about him kicking down the door and rescuing the POWs just when they thought Cobra had 'em for good was PRICELESS. His characterization in the toon perfectly reflected this. In the comic, Hama gave Flint one of the most memorable moments in the run of the series when he singlehandedly attacked a well armed platoon of Eels, himself unarmed! He apparently won, because we see him a few panels later, beaten up, but carrying one of the Eels' weapons, and looking even more pissed off and ready to beat some serious Cobra ass.

THREE TTBP FANS!!

Oh man, where have you guys been? lol.. I seemed like the only TTBP soldier for a while there. Glad to see I am not alone. I STILL say that the TTBP would make an absolutely awesome reissue... & pretty darn popular. I mean, yeah, its a playset.. but it is so versatile & mobile (with a Tomahawk, NAC, etc) that it is closer to a vehicle than a traditional playset imo.

I'd even go one further & say that they should release it in sea gray & black (with maybe yellow trim legs/ladders instead of red). With this scheme & a sticker sheet with both Joe & Cobra logos on it, it could be purchased and used for whatever side the buyer wants. Very Happy

Anyhow, sorry to hijack the thread. Wink Back to business...

You will be pleased to know that I found an MIB TTBP for $15 at a local toy/comic shop Smile

There was no price tag, their toy guy was gone, so the girl just pulled a price out of her arse.

I said, "SOLD!"

I hate you. Out of all of that, I had the Devilfish as a kid. Cobra had the Water Moccasin, the Sea Ray, the Hammerhead, The RAT... And the Joes had the Devil Fish. Cobra just ruled the waves, plain and simple....

Anyway, back on Topic:

Best Joe Leader: Hawk, hands down.
Worst Joe Leader: AE General Colton. Sorry, but AE is just RUINING the great, original G.I. Joe.

Best Cobra Leader: I'd normally say Destro, but I'm sick of him being lumped in with Cobra - Destro is his own man now, has been for almost 20 years! The IGs are a force into themselves, and as such, Destro is no longer Cobra. So, that leaves us with Cobra Commander (Marvel Comics version). The original CC was badass, especially after coming back from the dead. I still remember him shooting guys for bringing bad news. Kill the messenger, indeed! Serpentor wasn't bad, but the orininal CC just blows him away.
Worst Cobra Leader: Fred VII - guy just didn't know how to lead. Never did. A shame, really, because he's actually a favorite character of mine in the Comics. But leadership he did not poses.

Best Joe Toy: Tomahawk, hands down. Love that chopper to this day.
Worst Joe Toy: Road Rebel. I'm sorry, but this was just a waste of plastic. Don't own one, never really expect to.

Best Cobra Toy: Shoot, this is tough. I'm going to go with the Maggot. My first Cobra vehicle, and remains on the front line to this day. Love that whole thing. I still remember getting it for Christmas, and not having enough Cobra's to RUN the darn thing! I only had TWO!
Worst Cobra Toy: The FANG II. Such promise, such a waste of plastic. The one I had never EVER stayed in one peice. Rotors were ALWAYS falling off. Never been more disappointed with a Cobra vehicle. Even the Pogo was superior to this.

Best Comic Story: Hands down, the Cobra Island Civil War. My first intro to the Joe comics remains the best of the best. Still re-read this whenever I want to see decent military writing in comics.
Worst Comic Story: America's Elite, #0-18. I maintain that AE has all but ruined Joe comics, but hope that Powers/O'Sullivan can bring it back. Haven't read #21 yet - haven't had a chance to grab it. But 19-20 were a marked imrpovement. And considering that it's a story that involves Serpentor Clones and Crystal Ball as major players, that should just show how BAD AE has been.

Hey,FirstReality, don't hate me 'cuz Mom & Dad were cool!!! Laughing

Hey man,I never had a Maggot-lucky!!! The only vehicle I got in'87 was the Pogo!!!

I think I agree with you-'GI Joe' Colton in AE is the WORST Joe leader!!!

Trust me, Maxtype, my hatred is completely jealousy-related. I'd kill for a WHALE right now. Really, it's just because you have the Joe Navy I always needed as a kid to have decent water battles. However, my Joe chopper force was always there, and my bed made a fine substitute for the Flagg, so it seems I survived. Still, a fully opperationial TTBP would be awesome...

The Pogo gets a bad rap. Sure, it's a REALLY sci-fi-ish idea, and yes, it's battlefield applications seem rather... limited. But I remember getting mine on Christmas morning, throwing the darn thing together in about two minutes flat (and then spending 20 minutes putting on decals. I HATE DECALS. I'm just not good at applying them), and enjoying it. For a long time, it was Cobra Commander's command vehicle of choice. Of course, back then, my Joes still fired lasers, missiles REGREW on vehicles, and Cobra troopers ran away or were captured, never killed.

I honestly don't know if I still have my Pogo or not. Thinking back now, I almost want to get another one, just for the memory's sake. Say what you will, but it sure as heck didn't take up much space. Wonder what a good condition, complete Pogo goes for these days...

Don't be jealous,man-the ONLY thing I still have is a perfect condition Cobra Hydrofoil-my parents made me give away most of my stuff when I was 16....I never had the Flagg either-I used to pretend it was standing 100 miles off-shore,ready to send in the Fast-movers when needed! I've even given thought to building my own, larger TTBP out of plastic and such...........
