This...upsets me greatly. If Ed Brubaker hadn't been so good on this title up till now, I wouldn't even be buying any more Marvel books. But Ed's earned enough leeway to get me to check out at least two or three more issues before I decide whether to continue reading books from a company that did this my favorite character.... |

I've said it before I'll say it again... this is my last 616 Marvel comic for the foreseeable future.
I'm dropping all other Marvel comics with the exception of Ultimate Spidey and the last Ultimates issue.
____ Marvel.
____ Civil War

The best part is its not the first time.
Marvel is so busy trying to keep up with DC in changing the "status quo" that they are pulling stories from 15 years ago and rehashing. Shows you how the Marvel "superstars" are nothing more than plagiarizing hacks that can't get a book out on time. |

Enh. What's the big deal? He'll be back in six months or a year, if that. Why do they even bother "killing" major characters anymore? None of these "death" stories have any meaning at this point. I mean, when I read this issue, that was my first thought - not, "holy cow, Cap is dead!" but rather, "well, he'll be back soon enough."
So what's the point? (I guess getting coverage in the NY Daily News and CNN is the point, isn't it... )

I'd give this 6 to 9 months before Cap is back. Deaths of major characters at Marvel are never forever, heck some are even over after 3 or so issues. Is this the 2nd or 3rd time that Cap has "died" anyway? I remember that horrible run the early 90's where the super solider serum was killing him and he ended up in that god awful Iron Captain America Man armor. _________________

Well once we get through Funeral for a Friend... I mean... Fallen Son, I'm sure Marvel will launch Reign of the Sup... Captain Americas.
Joe Q must be having Joe Casey over for drinks or something when they come up with these "original" stories. |

You can get a classic version of Cap "not dying" in Essential Captain America vol. 3.
A lot of people want earth-shattering changes to occur after every story. Not just every event, but every story, period. And for a readership where some thought that the murder of a pregnant wife wasn't drastic enough, you REALLY have to wreck up the joint to look like you've changed things. "No good story ends with everything being the same after it's done" and all that. Sure, that theory can easily be proven wrong (Dark Knight Returns, For The Man Who Has Everything), but no one ever lets that stop them from saying it. "OMG, cool story but nothing changed after it. Booo!1!!1" For the fans who think that, congratulations: you've got change. _________________

It's worth noting that since her last "death" Jean Grey has effectively remained dead for 2+ years, with no signs of any permanent return in the immediate future (No, I don't count Phoenix: Endsong as a real resurrection since it didn't stick).
Steve Rogers may be gone longer than people are expecting. |

Todd, it' like you're reading my mind.....too funny!! And ummm..'Joe Q/Joe C', the only real difference there is to close the circle up on the letter 'C' and add a squiggle-if someone were a messy handwriter that wouldn't be too hard.......
p.s.-LOVE the new 'sig'-hehehehehe _________________

Wow... Joe Q has now convinced me to drop all of my regular Marvel titles except for Exiles and Cable/Deadpool. Thanks Joe-- you've saved me a lot of cash and ended a readership with some books that goes back to the early 80's. _________________ Fiona Taylor: You know this mission isn't gonna be easy, right?

I've been thinking of the proper words to sum up my mood about this. I was at lunch, reading the news on my phone, and I saw the story on CNN. I haven't read a Captain America book for a long time, but... Cap's always been the icon of what America strives to be. I read some of Joe Q's comments.. and then and only then did I find the words to sum up my feelings:
THIS SUCKS.
I've only been following Ultimate Spidey, and I will now re-evaluate that! _________________
