Just wondering how many of our members hunt and/or fish. I grew up doing both. If you hunt or fish, what is your prey. What do you hunt and/or fish with.

I have been going waterfowl hunting since I was 2 years old. I am very partial to duck hunting in marshlands. I have been on a few deer hunts; never really could get into it that much. I always enjoyed the fast pace of duck hunting, and I can run my trap (my mouth) in the blind without ruining the hunt. I primarily use a 12 guage Extrema
As with hunting, I grew up with a rod and reel in hand. My favorite prey is inshore fishing for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. Followed closely by bass and panfish. I fish with both conventional tackle and fly. I used to tie my own flies for saltwater fishing; even created a couple patterns. I use falcon rods and shimano reels for conventional. As for fly, the brand I think is the best buy and highly enjoy fishing with is Temple Fork Outfitters. I primarily use 8 and 9 weight for inshore and bass. For pan fish anything under 8.

I fish only. I tried hunting, as my dad is HUGE into hunting whitetail deer. I tried, and it wasn't my cup of tea. Get up at the arse-crack of dawn, to (typically) freeze your butt off, only to MAYBE see one or two deer. No thanks. Now, don't get me wrong. I'll eats me some bambi, as it's good eating... I just can't do the work associated with it Wink That, and, I tried to field dress a deer once, and man, was it a disaster. I've also tried to rabbit hunt. I must have the crap touch as we didn't see anything the few times I went.

Now fishing, fishing I can do. Nothing serious, but it's cool to just go out and collect yourself, relax, and maybe have a beer doing it. Basically, I go to a pond of someone I know and cast... Whatever I catch is A-Ok by me... I catch and release, I don't keep anything. When I was younger, I couldn't stand to fish. It was boring, couldn't catch a cold, and the fish were slimy. I got interested in it again when a buddy asked if I wanted to go with a few years ago.

I've done both. Never cared much for fishing though (until I went with my bro-in-law, who is a tournament fisher, and learned just how much fun chasing fish around a lake at 65 mph can be!). Always enjoyed hunting with my Dad & uncles. We hunted mostly deer, quail, dove, squirrel, rabbit, raccoons, bullfrogs (some as big as chijuajuas) and the occasional sasquatch & snipe. Mostly use my Winchester model 120 pump 20 gauge and have had a few 30-30s, with my favorite a Winchester lever action. I've been looking at getting into sporting clays or trap shooting as it gets more and more difficult to find free time and safe property to hunt.

Yeah, I was born and raised in Mississippi, so hunting was a pretty big part of what I did growing up. I don't do it as much now, but it's not because I don't like it, it's more like what Smokescreen said in that I just don't like getting up that early to most of the time sit around and see nothing.

My family owns a few acres that I deer and dove hunt on, and I go duck hunting with my friends every once in a while. Probably my favorite to eat is duck- I make a mean duck gumbo. Even when I don't go hunting, my friends will call me after they've got some duck meat to come and make gumbo.

We also would go frog gigging a lot when I was in high school, and that was a lot of fun. You don't have to be quiet, you can just ride along a ditch bank with a spotlight while drinking beer (I realize this probably doesn't do much to improve any stereotypes anyone may have about Mississippi). Good times...good times.

I'm what ya could call an "outdoor relaxationist". I hang out in the wild just to hang out in the wild... for me it's kinda like goin' to church. I don't dig sport hunting, but if it's gonna be my supper, then I'll hunt like an African Bushman. Same goes for fishing; if it ain't necessary for dinner, I'd prefer not to catch anything... it harshes my relaxation. Fishing gives me an excuse to sit on or near water, drink cold beer and groove to nature's beauty without looking like some sort of granola-munching, Yanni-listinin' treelover. Catching fish mostly just screws up my meditating so I usually just toss the line in with a sinker sans the hook and gst my relaxation on.

Now that brings back some memories, except us Missouri boys leave the gigs at home and use our hands. It's not as easy as it sounds...juggling beer, spotlight, gunny sack, trolling motor, beer, & frog..all without spilling your beer! Dang, we were some rednecks back then. Embarassed
