| If they're serious about Tobey Maguire playing Rick Hunter, I think I'm putting the cork back in the champagne. I liked him as Spider-Man/Peter Parker...but Rick Hunter he aint. |

So much for Battletech on the big screen first.
Well, so long as they don't use CG to make Tobey MacGuire look like some weird anime pud, I suppose I'd go see it. I'd prefer seeing the Clan invade the Inner Sphere, watch a Daishi and an Atlas go at it, over two kids and their stupid protoculture... _________________ "Show Thine Enemies No Mercy."

| I'll have to agree with Fyrefly, I'd like to see Battletech, Robotech always bored me (seemed like an animated soap opera) But the upside is if it does well, maybe we can get some new Valks.....maybe even a nice transforming one in 1:18 scale |

I could see Maguire as Max Sterling, but not really Rick Hunter.
But then again, "Robotech" covers a pretty wide arc...we're assuming they're going to go with a "Macross" themed storyline when they could actually be doing "Southern Cross" or "New Generation."
I kinda doubt it though, since the Macross portion is by far the most recognized portion of the series.
A 1:18 transforming Veritech would be awesome...but I doubt it'll happen. Something the size of the Skystriker that transforms? I can't imagine it'd go for any less than $150 or $200, given the complexity of the tooling involved. |

Doesn't have to be the size of the Skystriker. I have one of the Valks (Plane mode only) in 1:18 and it's much smaller than a Skystriker. I think it could possibly be done for $30-$40 |

I don't think you're thinking of the same 1:18 scale.
Have you seen the 1:18 scale jet fighters from bbi? Those things are HUGE.
1:18 scale is a size that would reasonably fit a G.I. Joe figure or two in the cockpit. If you're talking about the old Matchbox Veritech, that thing was an abomination from the word "go" (Looks more like a 1:18 scale Super-Deformed Veritech than a real VT) and certainly didn't transform in the least. Think of how much the masterpiece Transformers cost (which are considerably smaller than 1:18 scale). That cost is largely due to the expensive tooling to create the transforming toys, and expensive materials to make them sturdy enough to stand up to multiple transformations. The same problem would happen with a transformable VT. You're basically talking about an original "Jetfire" that's upscaled to fit Joe-sized figures.
No way that's making it onto shelves for $30 - $40 without some massive breakthrough in design or production to cut down on the costs.
I suspect any accompanying toy line is probably going to content itself with action-figure sized (and probably "masterpiece Veritech" sized) versions of the mecha involved. |

My thoughts exactly.

I have very little faith for a ‘Tech film at this point, especially since it’s been on the backburner for 15 years. Besides, ever since they dumbed the game down with the MechWarrior mini game, I’ve stopped collecting it. “My peasants with pitchforks have made contact with your ‘Mech’ s imaginary dial base, thus trapping and preventing your 100 ton Atlas from escaping.” Ugh!!! _________________ "Deadly force should not be used to stop a suicide attempt." The problem I see with casting Roy is there is no actor manly and badass enough to play him. Also I doubt we'll see a live action version of the "Pineapple Salad" scene.Shame too best death scene ever. |

Roy Fokker?
My pick would be Nathan Fillion. If they cast a Rick Hunter that's actually young (or at least looks young) opposite him, he'd play the "too cool for school" big brother to a "T." |
