most ppl know im not fond of the 12 inch figures.. but as a kid i did get a small amount of the HOF line.. they were actually kinda cool to me.. did some things i hadnt seen done in the small joes..
got to see most of cobra commanders face.. got to see destro! .. snake eyes almost unmasked.. and they picked some of my fav versions of figs .. so maybe thats why i liked em..
destro and snake eyes were some of my favs...
anyone else got some thoughts.. _________________ " I don't rock the boat I sink it "

| I have a pretty decent collection of them. I got some of them back in '93, and got a few more like Tunnel Rat, Torpedo, and Overkill when they started releasing them a few years ago. I like 'em, and I think they're much better to display than the 3 3/4 figures. |

I've got a number of them-I really like Duke ver.2,Gung-Ho (Marine Dress Blues) and Ninja Force Leader Storm Shadow.
Snake-Eyes has cool features, but I wish they had gone for a more "iconic" look.
Cobra Commander is awesome! _________________ I will never leave you to fend for your self,Trust me to stand behind you,I'm Your Glory Unseen

I had a few of these too, mostly from when they were being clearenced by KB toys and Targets in the mid 90's. I have Gung-Ho in dress Blues, Ace, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Duke in Desert Camo.
I really liked these as a kid. They had some cool features I went wild over such as working holsters and removable clips on the guns.
A few years back, probably in the 98-2001, I kind of got into some of the 21st century toys stuff. I had a few of the uniforms, such as the Swat uniforms and the Navy seal uniforms, but mostly I picked up their superb weapon packs and used them with my 12 inch Joes. Now I use a lot of those weapons with my Sigma 6 stuff, cause some of it fits quite nicely!
And Maxtype, there was a Snake Eyes that was all black, and looked a little more like the original Snake Eyes than the original 12 inch SE released. Actually, he looked like a blend of the original and the Ninja Force Snake Eyes. _________________

| That Snake Eyes you're talking about is the Karate Chopping Snake Eyes. I thought it was one of the best looking SE they brought out. Totally Ninja Force style all grown up! |

My thoughts on the whole HOF has actually changed over the years. When they first came out, I thought they were the cats meow.
I think the head sculpts were top notch, looked like the characters, fuzzy heads on most of them. That was cool.
Then they came out with the 30th anni bodies. Added wrist and neck articulation, they just became better. Of course, those style bodies never had the ARAH characters represent. Then when the JvsC 12" came out, those put the HOF figures to shame.
Don't get me wrong, they were good for the time, but they kinda went the way of Pong. I bought most of them again to use the outfits and their heads and put them on the new style bodies. Big improvement. |

Your thoughts kind of mirror mine, HelaViper...I've got a full run of the HOF stuff, and back in the day I LOVED it. The concept of my favorite RAH characters in 12" scale with accurate cloth (and rubber) uniforms just flat out rocked. That first Snake Eyes, Stalker, Duke, and CC got all sorts of play time from me.
But as time went on and I got into the increased articulation of later figures, I was kind of bummed at the articulation that the HOF guys got and sort of started losing interest. Still have them all, and still love how they look, though.

Hall of Fame is what got me into GIJOE in the first place.
I mean, yeah, I watched the cartoon. And I was aware of the comics and the figures thanks to the magic of JCPenney christmas catalogs and TV.
But man, when my brother and I got Snake Eyes (mine) and Stalker (his) with our birthday money ... oh dude. The floodgates were opened.
Before the line lost steam, we had Duke, Destro, Storm Shadow ...
Old friends Duke, Snakes and Stalker would have to foil the evil plots of Destro and Storm Shadow. Sometimes my cousin Chris would come over, and Ace would provide air support for our home team! Break up my sister's Barbies' wedding, will you Destro? I think not!
And we even got some of the adventure packs. A few TV dinner tables and a 12 figure jeep, and we'd have Snake Eyes in scuba gear sabotage a bridge and force Destro and Storm Shadow into a raging river! Stalker in mountain climbing gear would zipline to the rescue!
Then the line officially lost steam before we could get any more birthday money, or christmas presents.
But I still held onto hope. So I contacted Vincent Santelmo (writer of the GIJOE Encyclopedias) with a little help from my mom, and a few years later I had Major Bludd, Flint, Sergeant Savage, Gung-Ho, and ... I can't remember but I know there's another in my ranks.
And then the crowning achievement. Madison-Bouckville Antique Days ... I was with my grandmother, and I rounded a corner. To my awe, there was Hall of Fame Cobra Commander in a used toy merchant's kiosk.
I didn't even want to put the thing down. I was mildly annoyed at not having 50 bucks to cough up.
Until a week later on my birthday when my grandmother showed up at my house with it for me.
To say HOF started my Joe-Mania is an understatement.
A few years later, when the 12" Joe vs. Cobra stuff came out, I was pretty excited. But they didn't really match the originals (even if they are more poseable and technically "better" realistic army figures).
I still grabbed the unique Crimson Guard and Firefly. Because hey, I had to have a CG and Firefly. I wanted to get the Ninja Showdown 2 pack so I could give the OLD Storm Shadow ACTUAL Cobra ninja gear, and give my Snake Eyes the solid black costume (I never knew as a kid Snake Eyes was supposed to wear all black, I thought he always had a blue turtleneck).
Oh yeah ... and let's not forget that what 3 3/4 collectors think is a joke character, Rapid-Fire ... STARTED in Hall of Fame. He was invented for Hall of Fame. Your lame neon Super Trooper repaint is our "Greatest Urban Commando on the Planet".
(Now I guess nostalgia is making me want to blow some cash on Grunt, Heavy Duty, Ace, Roadblock, Rock n Roll, _________________

HOF was great for when it was released... Sadly, at that point, I was out of collecting.
But after I introduced my daughter Aja to Joes when she was still very young, I found the HOF Grunt on clearance at KB.
As some of you may know, it got crazier from then on.
Grunt, and a few others of the HOF line eventually recieved body upgrades as time went on, and I learned more and more about how to customize the 12" Figures. _________________ "Alone, I stand, and the world quakes in fear." |
