I hope this thread will keep you from saying "I wish I would have brought a
_______________"! So maybe we can compile a list that will ensure a great convention.
1. Camera
2. A way to store your convention box set, nothing worst than a crushed box
set.
Please feel free to add to this list. The count down is on.

here's me "to bring list"

1) Entertainment for the plane: Its a minimum 2 hour flight from whereever to Atlanta, so remember to bring something to read/ watch/ listen to. and make sure to charge those Laptop/ DVD player batteries!!!

2) FOOD MONEY: people often forget to factor in this expence in with their spending money, spending down to their last dime, and have nothing to eat. they only served refreshments in the courtesy room last year, and you're only fed at the casino nigh, so the REST of the weekend is on you. Also remember the hotel's food may be a bit pricey, so look for smaller resteraunts and fast food joints on the way in, or check the yelow pages in your room for any chinese food or pizza places that deliver. (in atlanta, the chinese food joints seem to have a Lemon Pepper chicken wing craze)

3)an itenerary: know where your going, and the times, especially if your in a group. the convention will eventually close, so if your not going straight to sleep, make a plan on what you're gonna do beofre and after the convention closes.

4) TRADES: there is a trading board there, so if you want to do any trades, you might wanny bring any figures/parts/ or weapons you wanna get rid of. you could trade with another attendee, or even a vendor there.

5) BIG BAG: Most likely, youre gonna leave with more stuff you came with, so leave , so dont pack tightly, and leave some room in your carry on, or luggage 9drivers need not worry about this)

6)Good sneakers, shoe insoles:You're gonna be doing a LOT of standing (especially in the Atlanta airport) so wear good shoes.

There is a REALLY good thread on Joesightings on what to bring for registration night. This should be manditory reading for all first time con-goers.

http://www.joesightings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3424

My two cents to that would be to bring Travlers Cheques. It is a safer alternative to cash. You will want this at the club store on reg night. Undoubtedly, the CC machine at the store will fail or back up.

Also bring to reg night a extra bag (duffle bag is sufficient). The club does not put your stuff into shopping bags and unless you have a great talent for balancing stuff when you carry it back to your room, you will want something to put them in. I learned this last year....I get up to the room and my key would not work...d'oh!! I had to go down 46 stories back to the lobby and get a new key. Pain in the arse!!!!

Luggage - this was hinted at before. I will pack a smaller suitcase in a bigger suit case. I use the bigger case to pack all of the con souviners in.

PROGRAM YOUR CELL PHONE - whether it is SMS or voice calls, it is always good to know where your buddies are.

Here is a good post 9/11 tip.....DO NOT try to carry on your con costume if you have toy weapon accessories for them. Laughing

This is all I can think of for now. I am sure this list will be added to.

Good one. I ended up having to leave all my weapons behind in Boston. and packing them in your checked bag isnt a solution, as they do random bag searches, and ALL luggage is X-rayed. ( I even went through hell with my laptop)

As far as cheap food, there's a food court across the street from the hotel (where the train station is) so that's an option if hotel food is too pricey for you.

And as for what I might forget ... underwear. Yeah it sounds like a no-brainer but I go to sci-fi conventions at least twice a year for the last 6 years and I've forgotten to pack underwear a couple times. Nothing makes a con trip more interesting than trying to squeeze a boser-hunt into an already cramped and busy con schedule.

one other thing:

G.I.JOE BASED DVDS!

I remember last year they played that Sigma Six episode ad infinitum for the WHOLE CONVENTION!!! and it drove some of us nuts!!!

Luckly, I had my Spytroops DVD and the first season of Robot Chicken!

I Did make a suggestion that, considering it was a Joe convention, SOMEONE should have a DVD set of the cartoons so we could have a "Screening Room" between workshops, cause you can only hang in the dealer's room for so long,...

KOP, I have the MASS Device Mini and Revenge of Cobra mini on DVD. I can make copies of those pretty easy, but I don't hang out in the courtacy (or whatever it is called) room often.

There are copyright issues with showing the episodes which may be why they only showed the one last year. If they are charging for admission they have to get express permission to show any copyrighted materials including the movie, episodes, etc. I'm sure Hasbro would be cool with them showing them but not knowing who has the rights to the episodes as far as showing them it might be tricky.

On the plus side, the HTS booth was showing some vintage commercials at their booth at SDCC all weekend this year. Cheesy as all get out but cool to see nonetheless.

I just stumbled over that dvd set, as well as the movie, on dvd at an old thrift store for a mesily 10 bucks!!! I already have the G.I.Joe vs CObra and the Spytroops DVD, as well as the ninja Sigma Six dvd that came with Destro. Looking for the rest of the series now,...

at any rate, I will have tons of DVDs with me for entertainment, I was thinking of you other guys. (one of the dudes there made me turn Robot CHicken off because of the Kids)

oh, another thing,... feel free to make friends with strangers (I met a lot of cool people at the bingo session last year)
