First up for the Adventure Team is the member: Adventurer.

The Adventurer is the first African American member of the AT. He joins the Land Adventurer, Air Adventurer, Sea Adventurer, and Man of Action as the five base members. Adventurer comes outfitted in a tan set of fatigues, short black boots, a side holster with revolver and the AT logo dog tag. He also has the flocked or "fuzzy" head that the Adventure Team is known for.

The Adventure Team was started in 1970 as a non-military answer for GIJoe. Instead of fighting enemies, they fought the elements and wild creatures such as the Pygmy Gorilla and Giant Squid! The Adventure team figures in 1970 came with the original style bodies featuring 21 points of articulation, and the "pinchy grabby" style hands (prior to the 1974 introduction of the infamous Kung-Fu Grip!)

Adventurer had a unique head sculpt compared to the other members. In the 60's, the AA GIJoe was the same head sculpt as the Cauc Joe...just molded in a medium brown. But the AT Adventurer had a more "ethnic" look to him, making him stand apart from the rest. He is definitly one of my favorites because of this.

In the past few years, the GIJoe Collectors Club has offered reproductions of the Adventurer Team Members in limited runs of 1970 pieces. The fourth entry to the set was the Adventurer (club figure on the right). Walmart is going to offer these style figures in August, only with the KFG hands instead of the "hard hands".

The Adventurer came packaged in what is refered to as the "long box" or "coffin box". Included with the figure was some AT paper work. The original price for these figures were $5.99

The only weapon these guys had to fight off an attacking White Tiger or Spitting Cobra was the silver revolver. This pistol fits well into the shoulder holster. The KFG Adventurer came with a hunting rifle instead.

Ahhh yahhh... dats what I'm talking about! Keep these coming! The bearded talking AT Commander was my first Joe ever, and I will always have a special place in my heart for the Adventure Team. These 12" joes had the best play value! Love these groovy dudes!

We all bicker about whether ARAH, Sigma 6 or 25th represent the TRUE Joes, but these are the ones that started it all.

And boy, $6 was pretty steep back then.

Here's a question from someone just starting to get into the 12-inch figs - how the HECK do they hold their weapons? That pinch-style hand barely fits around a rifle and twists the wrist into an unusual position to do so. And the revolver pistol doesn't fit in EITHER hand! Shocked

That's about it. I have a couple "Timeless Collection" remakes-GI Joe "Army" can barely hold his M1-and my Action Pilot can't hold his Flare Gun at all! Very Happy
