The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club has unveiled the digital mock-up for the FSS 8 version of Arctic Attack Soldier Blizzard!

G.I. Joe Collector's Club FSS 8 Blizzard

G.I. JOE ARCTIC ATTACK SOLDIER
Code Name: GREG “BLIZZARD” NATALE
(Inspired by the 1988 action figure.)
Includes: removable arctic coat, sniper rifle, backpack,
skis x 2, ski poles x 2, boot cleats x 2, and figure stand.

Hmmm… so Blizzard isn’t what I expected.  At all…

The signature design element of the original 1988 Blizzard (to my  eyes) was his uniquely-designed removable helmet.  Rather than a hood or a stocking cap, this guy went full bore with a combat helmet and attached googles.  It gave him a tactical look that set him apart from being written off as “just another guy in a thick coat.”

Considering that this is the Club’s final year of operation, new parts are going to be hard to come by.  As such, we have our first “three-peat” in terms of new head reuses from the Club. Blizzard is sporting the same head that was used in the 2016 G.I. Joe Con Airborne Six and the FSS 5 Scoop figures.  I’ll be honest– I don’t know what other head I would have chosen instead but I don’t think this particularly screams “Blizzard” to me.  It’s close and it’s probably as close of an existing part that currently exists but it leaves Blizzard joining the ranks of recent figures with non-removable helmets.

As far as the rest of the build, we have the removable coat that was last used in the FSS 2 Big Bear figure along with those same arms and legs.  Considering that these parts were designed for the cancelled RoC Arctic Threat Duke it’s no surprise that they work well together here.  The color scheme is very evocative of the original figure as well.

Who knows– maybe that helmet will grow on me in time.  Unfortunately I look at it and I keep seeing both Airborne and Scoop right now.

And, for those filling out their BINGO cards, here’s the full roster for G.I. Joe FSS 8:
