Another day, another FSS 8 preview from the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club. Today we have our first look at (former) DEF Leader Bullet-Proof!
G.I. JOE BATTLE CORPS COMMANDER
Code Name: BULLET-PROOF
(Inspired by the 1992 action figure.)
Includes: removable grenade bandolier, pistol, knife,
rifle, rocket launcher with projectile, and figure stand.
The old expression goes “No good deed goes unpunished.” In the case of the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club that expression could be modified to “No new head sculpt goes without reuse.” To build Bullet-Proof the Club went back to the 2017 Force of Battle Convention set and brought back yet another of their head sculpts. In this case, Dodger’s noggin makes a return and changes ethnicity in the process. I’ll admit that I didn’t see this one coming as the SDCC IDW Revolution boxed set Matt Trakker head seemed like a logical choice. However, this was not meant to be apparently. It’s a shame too as that head would have been a perfect match for the vintage version which included a removable helmet. (Not to mention a flat-top that would have made Arsenio Hall proud.)
The overall figure design does a decent job of evoking the design of the 1992 Bullet-Proof. It’s hard to tell from the Photoshop mock-up but the colors look to be a decent match. At this point I’m completely over the Pursuit of Cobra Snake Eyes legs which have been used to death at this point. However, the rest of the build looks pretty good. Not great, but still good.
It’s interesting to note that the DEF is apparently no more. Bullet-Proof is now a Battle Corp Commander. I guess this means that he and Barricade won’t be getting the band back together any time soon.
And, for those filling out their BINGO cards, here’s the full roster for G.I. Joe FSS 8:
