Hmm… not quite as “hot” as I was hoping for…
The recipe for the Python Patrol HEAT Viper is pretty simple. Take the 2014 50th Anniversary HEAT Viper and apply an approximation of the 2003 Python Patrol HEAT Viper color scheme. I say “approximation” because this one is close but there’s something off about it.
When the Python Patrol was updated in 2003, their deco was changed to hues that better matched the vintage vehicles. This meant a shift toward maroons, blacks, and golds. (Very “Iron Grenadiers” in color, actually.) This deco tries to follow that 2003 pattern but the chest seems to be missing something in terms of color. Whereas the Club build has black web gear the original had a sculpted (and painted) web harness that was painted black. The result helped to break up the “sea of gold” that is the torso of the update. As a result, this new version looks unfinished to my eyes as if there’s supposed to be another detail that was just left out for this picture. It’s not a bad update at all but the 2003 looks to be the superior version in my eyes in terms of color. This one looks too much like he should be performing as a back-up dancer in Vegas.
Of course, that’s just my opinion.
For those keeping score, here’s the roster of this year’s set:
Python Patrol 2.0:
- Major Bludd
- Python HEAT Viper
- Python Lamprey
- Python Laser Viper
