G.I. Joe FSS 6 Sub-Zero preview

The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club has released the digital mock-up for FSS 6 Sub-Zero!

G.I. Joe FSS 6 Sub-zero

G.I. JOE WINTER OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
Code Name: MARK “SUB-ZERO” HABERSHAW

(Inspired by the 1990 action figure!)
Includes: removable hooded coat, harness, pistol, snow shoes,
machine gun with bi-pod, tranquilizer rifle, dart cartridges,
backpack, mortar with bi-pod, and figure stand.

NOTE: These modern era club exclusive action figures will not be exact replicas of their vintage counterparts. All images are Photoshop mock-up representations, final product, accessories and/or colors may vary!

Hmm… interesting…

Sub-Zero is a classic example of how the Club uses existing parts to cobble together something new.  The build includes the head from the 30th/50th Low Light, the arms and coat from the Rise of Cobra Arctic Snake Eyes, and what appears to be the lower body the sadly-cancelled Pursuit of Cobra Arctic Duke that was last used for the FSS 2.0 Big Bear figure.

It’s a decent way to recreate the 1990 Sub-zero for FSS 6 although that rubber overcoat puts extreme limitations on the figure’s articulation.  I also don’t see the need for the extra added holster that seems to be a poor fit in the Photoshop mock-up.  Personally, I think if I were building a new Sub-Zero I might have utilized the removable hood from the 25th Anniversary Snow Job figure as it wouldn’t have obscured the figure’s head so much.  In fact, the Snow Job body would have made for a great base for the entire build!

Of course, given the Club’s penchant for releasing the repaint versions of figures, I’m surprised they didn’t go for the 1993 Sub-Zero deco instead.  (This is by no means a request to do so.)

  1. So I’m a little confused by something. The fine print says they’re not exact replicas of their vintage counterparts. And Sub-Zero has the modern logo on his arm. Is this wave supposed to be more modern and not the typical updates of the vintage line? Or are they just emphasizing they’re not re-releases of the original o-ring molds? I just don’t recall seeing that text before.
