Joe fans, feast your eyes on Salvo and Darklon!  Here’s a few quick thoughts from one impatient subscriber who hasn’t received his yet.

Salvo:

G.I. Joe FSS 5 shipment 3 salvo

Let’s be honest– the FSS 5 Salvo had a pretty rocky start.  The initial preview was less “hulking anti-armor trooper who carried a pillbox launcher on his shoulder” and more “98lb weakling from the ‘before’ shots of a Charles Atlas advertisement.”  G.I. Joe fans and potential subscribers were understandably unhappy and voiced their dissent.  In a surprise move, the GIJCC listened and updated the design to something a lot closer to the original vintage figure.

I’m going to say it now– I love the reuse of the Hit & Run head for Salvo.  I never liked the head when used for H&R but it totally works here!  Still not certain why the Club retooled his original briefcase but it is what it is.  At least he no longer looks like he needs a sandwich!  (Or two… or three.)

Darklon

G.i. Joe fss 5 shipment 3 Darklon

Okay, who’d have ever predicted that Darklon would become a sought-after figure?  Ever since his inclusion as a souvenir figure at Joe Con 2012, this cousin to Destro has seen his secondary market value SOAR.  In fact, he’s become so popular that the GIJCC included a more traditional version in this FSS. This design is much more faithful to his original 1989 build than the Joe Con modernized version but it works quite well.  I’m not a fan of those 2008 Zartan arms but one can’t argue that this version captures the feel of the original Evader driver nicely.

We’ll have more thoughts in the formal JBL reviews at a glance, this is looking to be one of the better shipments in G.I. Joe FSS 5.  Of course, I’m impatiently awaiting the arrival of Raptor but that’s just me.

We’ve got more photos below to whet your appetite until the boxes arrive.  Until, keep watching those mailboxes!

I received my set today. I like how both characters turned out. Salvo has always been a favorite and it is great to finally have a modern style take on the vintage version.
