Thanks to our good friend Phil Kost over at JoeReloaded.com for the alert– IDW Publishing has been announced as the new recipient of the GIJoe comic license!
According to the press release, the first products from this deal, a new monthly comic book series based on classic G.I. JOE vs. COBRA lore, will be launched with an introductory debut issue in October 2008. Featuring all-new storylines, the comics will portray the epic struggle of the G.I. JOE team against the evil forces of COBRA, while highlighting the brand’s favorite heroes and villains that made kids of the ‘80s today’s fans.
The folks over at Sideshow Toys have unveiled their first teaser image of their forthcoming premium 1:6 GIJoe line. While few details have been revealed it would appear that the team’s premiere Commando will be the first figure “out of the gate”!

The ranks of both GIJoe and Cobra are bolstered in this latest wave of 25A action figures! Cobra gains two signature troopers, GIJoe adds a helicopter pilot, tracker, and another version of everyone’s favorite commando to the ranks. Even Duke gets a face-lift and some slick new gear in his latest incarnation!

The folks at the Collector’s Club are “dangling the carrot” once more.
Previews of the Headhunter Guard and Headhunter Stormtroopers figures and filecards have been posted. The file card for the exclusive B. A. T. was also uploaded with the figure to follow on Monday!

The GIJoe Collector’s Club has revealed the second San Diego Comic Con exclusive figure– and it’s the start of a whole new line!
Modelled after the highly-successful “Robot Heroes”, “Adventure Heroes”, and “Super Hero Squad” series from Hasbro, GIJoe will be the next property to be given the “PVC treatment” with the line to hit stores sometime in late 2008/ early 2009.

Going slightly under the radar is an article on Forbes.com stating that Hasbro has reacquired the rights to distribution of the Sunbow Productions library of animated titles. This, of course, includes all episode of G.I. Joe from 1982 through 1987 (before DiC took over).
Potentially great news for cartoon fans and those of us who have been overspending on DVD’s and waiting anxiously for Season Two, part 2.
